Yup... it's been a bad day. I left one of the lids on the table to see how to fit them to the lib... when our brilliant weather permitted a sudden gust of wind to blow it off the table and onto the concrete... where it chipped badly.

Thinking I could cut it off and trim them down so that I wouldn't have to remove the weather stripping, i decided to get the scroll saw out. It was going ok, until the saw base slipped on the second lid i was cutting and took the entire corner off the lid.

At which point I snapped the f**kers in half and threw them in the trash.

Sorry guys, but at this point I don't think I want my lib photographed anymore. Tho I'll meet you all for kebabs

Bad day mate, it's a real shame but I'm sure you'll sort out some good lookin lids again, once the pain of these ones wears over :D. Look forward to meetin ya on Friday even if you aren't in the paid shoot I'm sure there will be lots of unofficial photos taken!

Well i'm kinda gettin over it now. Though I think I'm gonna stay away from any stick on fibreglass bits from now on. It wasn't a total loss though... I brushed up on my painting skills massively as well as gained experience using clear coat. Those eyelids didn't really look like they fitted too well in the end after all anyway. They stuck out too much.

I might get around to doing a tutorial on my painting technique once the weather clears and I'm not quite so angry anymore.

At least I got $20 off the lids with my saved points from buying the A/V kit off japanparts previously

my condolences mate but may I suggest in future my carbon fibre lids as they go well with dark cars and dont require any painting.

Yeah... I'm not a fan at all. They're more like eye masks than lids

Hey Nytro - think of it as a valuable lesson mate. I know the $240 hurts and maybe there's some pride being dented too, but as you've pointed out, the up side is that you've gained experience with the paint. Some day in the future, you'll laugh at the snap and realise that the painting exercise saved you big time on something else that you're working on. Life's like that. :good:

Oh, and don't let it dent your enthusiasm for having another go at the lids or something else!!

Sorry to hear that, man. I too, would have been frustrated enough to snap the lids in half too ... twice! And then toss them in a bonfire to burn to a crisp. Nothing sends tempers soaring like watching your work and effort get mucked up through no fault of your own.
