couple of quick questions: Bonnet, Front Lip, Warranty

Postby RAN94A » Thu Mar 05, 2009 3:09 pm

hey guys just a few quick questions, for reference i drive a 2005 MY06 3.0R

1. am i able to swap a GT bonnet onto my car?? is it a straight fitment or are the body designs slightly different so it wont line up?

2. are there any front lips available for the 3.0R as i havnt seen any specifically for them around.. and where would the best place ot find one be.

3. Would replacing either of these affect my warranty (used subaru dealer) or insurance (aami)

firstly yeah you can put a gt bonnet on your 3.0 without an issue, tho they are rare second hand and expensive new..

second i would imagine the front lips would be pretty universal between the 3.0 and the gt's.

third i doubt your warranty will void, if it does thats pretty dodge as you wouldnt have done anything mechanically to the car, insurance might go up slighty as they may class a front lip as a body kit, in which case its a modification.

Front lips are not universal as the 3.0r/3rspecb front fascia is different to the GT.

* Start Rant *

Please don't put a GT bonnet on your car... You DO NOT have a turbo (Not that the 3RB is slow :P ), so why pretend.

I know I know, some people like the look of the bonnet but as far as I'm concerned, anyone who puts a GT bonnet on a N/A car will be placed in the same catagory as fools who put bonnet scoops on Magna's & Civic's...

So unless your turboing your car & putting on TMIC, or putting a massive oil cooler there, DON'T DO IT...

* End Rant *

In regards to the lip, there are specific ones for the pre-face lift 3.0RB's... www.japanparts.com has them listed & I'm sure Subaru Australia will be able to sort you out with one.

Warrenty won't be an issue with what you talked about...

On the Gen IV's, only the MY04-MY06 had the aluminium bonnets (you lucky bastards). The MY07+ use steel and you can really feel the weight difference.

You sure about that Jim Boy? Because I know Trieu's 3RB wagon had an aluminium bonnet :D

Even our old MY99 WRX had an aluminium bonnet :D

well to be honest i could see that coming.

Point is im on my p's still for a little over a year and if it were up to me i would already be driving a turbo car :twisted:
But the RTA kinda trounced all over that idea so for a while im making do with what i got.

Now last time i had a look this section of the forum was called cosmetics.. i dont want to pretend my car is turbo'd and i know that putting on the bonnet with the scoop wont add a billion horsepower to the car.
But its a nicer look to the car and makes it look more aggresive, and i also plan on geting an after market grill which in my opinion looks shite without the scoop with it.

i dont know how many ford GTP's i see with that after market scoop driving around and that does nothing for performance its just looks and it does look good!!
i could ask you why you modify your car... changing tail lights, adding a lip, adding a spoiler.. none of it does anything for performance but it makes it different and makes you happy!!

:wink: so lets not rain on each others parade and stick to whether or not if i did do it, it would fit.
Also thanks for the link! ive had a look on there and it seems to be the place to go to for stuff like this

also another quick couple of questions, ive been reading around abit and from what ive seen PhatGT seems to have been the member to see in regards to stuff like this... is he still trading?? or has he given it away for now?

and on the japan parts site as my liberty is a 2005 MY06 would that fall under the 05 or 06 category on there..

In the end it's you car & you can do what you wish... But when it comes to this forum, I know I'm not the only one that shares my view :P

Plus, adding a turbo bonnet to an NA car while you still on your P's is possibly attract some unwanted attention from the boys in Blue... Just something to think about :)
