JDM Spec B grille from Subaru Oz

Postby nico » Fri Nov 28, 2008 11:01 am

As I think you all know, the MY08 STI Liberty uses the JDM Spec B grille. Having wanted one of these for a while, I pinched a VIN off carpoint.com.au & gave the local Subaru parts place a call. See details below...

MY08 STI Liberty grille (same as JDM Spec B): Part# 91121AG171 Price: $409.30 inc. GST

Badge for above: Part# 93013SA031 Price: $71.05

Damn good price for grille I reckon seeing as phatgt seems to be out of the grille business & much cheaper / easier than import monster & japanparts!

I've ordered a grille which he said will arrive Monday (I'll save 70 bucks & use my existing badge).

Not having a huge amount of confdence in these guys, I'll report back once I pick it up on Monday...

Good work! That's actually not a bad price considering it's from the dealership. Better than those $600+ for those mesh grilles on offer. But yeah, with the bad dollar stock that's landed already are great value.

Pinch a VIN? Is it necessary to have a TB STi to be able to buy the grille?

No it's not, but the parts interpreters usually can't / won't look up a part unless you can supply a vin of the vehicle the part was factory fitted to (especially something out of the norm like STI LIb)

actually, they are no longer allowed to deny you access to parts if you don't have a VIN

there was some corrospondance between myself and Subaru AU about this when i wanted to buy a STi Radiator cap.

my understanding is that if the part is specific to an STi application, they can demand a VIN, other than that, they don't requiren it.

Yeah, all the dealerships I've dealt with lately don't want to know your model year any more. Only VIN or else they won't even help you out. I guess too many idiots who get their model and manufacture year wrong and the dealership ends up stuck with the wrong part.

Ok, picked up my MY08 STI Liberty grille today & to my delight it was actually the correct part & an exact match to the JDM Spec B grlle.

I decided to get a new badge as well instead of risking damage to my original one & after asking for a cheeky discount all in cost was $400 even, which I'm pretty happy with. Look forward to installing it tonight...

Yeah, $400 all in for grille & badge. Pretty happy seeing as I was this close to buying 1 from japanparts. I don't see why anybody else couldn't get a similar deal though. Dealers are usually pretty willing to give decent discounts as most genuine parts have huge margins. All you have to do is ask.

I got mine from Sydney City Subaru (02) 9568 0300, ask for Darren.

Damn... that is a good price.

I reckon Sub Aus. bought in advance and still making a profit selling at $400 a pop.

I got mine 2 months ago and the trade in price was $100. Said they could easily resell the stocker, they just ordered the sti grill and badge in one go and fitted it for free too! Now that was a bargin.
