HID Fogs

Postby windspeed36 » Mon May 04, 2015 11:35 pm

Evening all,

Been doing a lot of reading including the material from Daniel Stern (linked below) in regards to fog lights and I saw that a few users mentioned going with yellow HID's as a good option. I basically want to try and get the most I can from my fogs which at stock do shit all in fog. I've thought about putting a standard 6K HB4 HID kit on however apparently putting them into what was originally a halogen enclosure doesn't really work that well plus the 6K colour bounces on the fog. Thoughts? Where would one be able to source good quality yellow HID's or am I better to use a filter over the fog to generate the colour?

Cheers,

Chris

I've run hid's in previous cars
My last car had reflector style fog light enclosures, as for fitting them if they're the same model as your halogen they will usually alright, however they have a large body behind the globe and it can be a fight to get the locking tab down.

Results, hids in a reflector housing don't give a massive amount of distance but you do get a great spread and can see anything either side. As for actual fog they're useless, reflect straight back at you because of the spread and you will blind anyone oncoming.

Hids are made to be out in projector style units and my gen 2 has said projector style fog lights. If you want useful light for use in fog then it's either projector or halogen globes

Convert your fogs to HID (i.e. projector retrofit) or see if you can get a universal type that'll fit into your bumper (remember it should be HID specific).

Then bung 3,000K bulbs in them.

Something like this: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthr ... NG-MINI-H1

Or these https://www.theretrofitsource.com/compl ... ype-s.html (I haven't fitted mine yet).
