DIY Honeycomb grille

Postby Benrs » Mon Jan 19, 2015 7:57 pm

Whipped this grille up over the weekend. Its a stock facelift grille with the unwanted bits removed with a dremel, a bit of putty to fill in some gaps, a sheet of honeycomb plastic, and some plastidip.

Thanks mate.

Yep I've been wanting to get this done for a while and finally found the time. Better than spending $500ish on one from subaru.

That's brilliant. You should start a mini business for this. I'm serious...

Thanks guys.

I would be happy to make more if people are interested. Obviously a stock grille would need to be sent to me to modify. Everything else is straight forward.

You'll have to add up the parts and labor costs involved too Ben. But if it looks as good as the one you did, I am sure people will pay good money for it.

I prefer this style to the oem style as this has more 'depth'.

Edit: this style also has matching honeycomb to the oem fog light covers. The oem honeycomb grill has weird' steps' in the mesh

Agreed mate. the mesh sits backs further than the oem mesh grill and gives a more aggressive look. And your right, the mesh i have used suits the foglight mesh really well. Im stoked that the plans in me head worked in reality, and the grille doesn't look doggy and homemade IMHO.

I love the look.
I reckon the chrome surround of the factory grill would really set it off. I think the chrome works well with headlight washers and the tops of the side skirts on the 3.0 spec b's
Although I notice most people prefer to cover that with plastidip.
