Missing Towball/Trailer Connector Cover?

Postby tom_kauf » Sat Jul 26, 2014 11:33 am

I've always notived that my car didn't come with a Towball/Trailer Connector Cover (see pics below). It seems to be a dealer-fitted item (has Subaru written on it). I thought that was weird, since rain/dirt can get into the pins.

I assume there is a cover that has broken of mine? Just recently I looked underneath and saw the remains of a hinge that looks like it has broken off.

Where can I get a replacement one? Is there a Subaru Part Number? Or is there an OEM manufacturer that Subaru use for this connector?
I assume it'll come together with the whole connector from the dealer? Which wouldn't be too bad, since the remaining side is a bit damaged too.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll try to find one that's the same housing as my current one (less work wiring in a new connector).

Its only 7 wires! Plus the wiring instructions are on the packet.

The terminals corrode at the back, so fitting a complete new socket means you trailer lights stand a better chance of working next time you use it.

Ok, cool. That probably makes it worthwhile.

I can confirm that the NARVA 7 Pin Flap Trailer Socket - Part# 82042BL is exactly the same as the dealer installed Subaru one I had :D .

The only difference in that newer models (incl the ones Subaru use) have a cover plate that clip on. Whereas the old ones screwed on.

So unfortunately I couldn't use the piece that said Subaru....damn  ! Oh well. Everything else is the same incl mounting holes (which was the most important thing).
