Subaru-made grill - not for SI Cruise type?

Postby |_Ash_| » Fri Mar 21, 2014 6:50 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase this grill from japanparts;

But on the listing, it says 'Won't fit on SI Cruise type'. My Liberty is a 2007 GT (MY08), and I think it's the Premium model - it has the SI control knob, front and side airbags, and the 14sp McIntosh audio system. I've never known how many variants or what exactly the variants are, but does this mean that the pictured grille/s won't fit on my car?

I can't see how not though, it's just the grill on the front of the car.

Disregard what Japan Parts say. That is a mistake on their part I think. Those grills will fit any MY07-09 Liberty or Outback.

Which grill were you thinking of?

Cool, that's what I suspected/hoped.

I'm partial towards the bottom one. Thoughts?

I saw someone knock them in another thread I was reading just today, but personally I quite like them. I'm not too big a fan of the shiny carbon fibre designs, as I don't think they'd go too well with my grey car.

Yeah looks nice...

But personally I would prefer the honeycomb style grill like this:

Yeah I've seen that grill a lot, it's definitely a nice design. I could have gone either way on either that one, or the one I've gone with, but at the end of the day the one linked above was easier for me to find, and it's price was pretty good. Can't go wrong with either one, really.

If you are prepared to buy off JapanParts + postage to AUS, you may as well consider local options from Subaru because I think for the same price (or maybe a bit more) you can get a brand new honeycomb grill from the dealer. There was a thread about that recently....they're not as expensive as you may expect Subaru to charge.

I like both the top and bottom grilles in the OP, if I had to choose 1 though I'd lean towards the top one. 8)

I placed the order last night for the bottom grill through japanparts. Total price was somewhere around $430 odd with delivery. I also chucked in official/proper Subaru '2.0GT' badging for an extra $40... always wanted to flaunt the GT status on the back haha.

$430 for an aftermarket mesh grille when you can pick up the official JDM honeycomb grille for $429 locally?

Whatever floats your boat I guess...

I called up a local Subaru parts retailer on Saturday to see whether they had the honeycomb grill, but got transferred through to their sales dept. as the parts dept. is closed on weekends. I'd already placed the order by that stage. Where can I find the JDM honeycomb grill? I hadn't found that design in my initial search, but if there's a local source, I may cancel my order and get that local grill.

You serious? This entire time I thought my car was 2.0...

Just checked on their site, there is no '2.5GT' badge.

These are what they had available;

Ah well.

I cancelled my entire order. I'll try to find that honeycomb grill locally.

You can definitely get the 2.5 one, more USDM than JDM though
