I am looking for a larger capacity fuel tank for my 09 GT-B Liberty sedan but so far haven't turned up anything useful. I have contacted 'the long ranger' and 'brown davis automotive' who both make long range tanks for 4WD vehicles but neither make tanks for the Liberty and are not interested. Does anyone know of a reputable manufacturer that has higher capacity tanks for the Liberty? I would like an increase to 100l or so which would give me enough range for a Sydney to Brisbane trip, or equivalent, on Caltex Bioflex (e70-e85) with a bit left over just in case. I would prefer a reputable manufacturer with experience in fuel tank fabrication rather than a basic metal fabricator. Cheers

I do Canberra - Brisbane (and back) a couple of times a year but I also take the kids for a cruise pretty regularly. The extra range would make trip planning much easier.

My old man has a Forester and was thinking about long range tanks. He's acquired a wheel-shaped round LPG fuel tank out of a Falcon and plans to convert it into an additional fuel tank, which sits in the spare wheel well, giving 30ish more litres capacity.
That would get you pretty close to 100L.

Where do you put your spare wheel on long trips then? Obviously Dells Foz is well equipped but the lib.. Roof rack?

Better off just taking a couple of Jerry's

just sit the wheel in the boot
or carry a can of tyre repair spray goop stuff

Thanks for the suggestions. I prefer to keep my full size spare tyre as I normally drive through the night on interstate runs. There aren't many options as far as tyre repair shops go at 2 or 3am... I could put it in the boot but then I lose boot space, same deal with jerry cans. Not a big deal if I am just taking the kids for a cruise but I need the space on the interstate trips. The best solution is the larger capacity tank to replace the standard one. With all the mods available I would be really surprised if nobody else had ever done anything similar in the past.

My suspicion would be that people weigh up stopping for 5 minutes to get fuel vs the hassle of getting a larger fuel tank and don't bother.

For the most part I agree with you, but long trips with kids is much easier if you can let them stay asleep. As soon as I stop they wake up so I prefer to stop for food, fuel, toilets & a short rest all at once rather than 1 at a time. If I am alone I drive until I am almost out of fuel then stop which tends to be shorter distances as the driving is more 'spirited' than with the kids in the car.

you need a Prado/ Cruiser with twin 90L tanks..

There are a few rally workshops in Canberra. Can't remember names off hand but Google will know. Those guys would probably be able to fab you up something as they are usually doing the opposite with their cars making smaller tanks to save weight.
