Subaru Legacy Tail lights

Postby Pyr0m4n14c44 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 8:26 am

Good morning forum,
I was just curious if anyone has modded their rear tail lights on their gen 3 to look like the Legacy? I personally think it looks better than just the lights on the side, and if anyone has, how did you do it? Sorry I could not find a picture of the lights in action but there are a few videos of them on YouTube. What do you guys think of this idea?

Thanks everyone :)

No "modifying" required. All it is, is the fact that in australia alone they decided 4 lights is all that is required. Stupid.
However every other country in the world has the 4 lights (that I know of) so all you have to do is source some from over seas. ie Japan. I bought mine from Japan. Was the first and best mod I did.
PM me and I'll send you a link where to find them. They do sometimes come up for sale here but very rarely and get snapped up quick smart

Its more money to do it than I thought :s. Sucks, I thought it would be simply mounting light sockets in the current back plate.
I guess that shall be added to the list of things I want to do lol, first being changing the front grill to mesh then respraying the front bumper, thanks guys for your help :D

Regards,
Andrew

You can do that to your current rear garnish. It doesn't look as good as the JDM garnish because it diffuses the light across the garnish better (I hope that makes sense haha)

Yes it's an Outback, but you get the idea.

The wiring is already there, just trace it down into the boot and connect (i think) blue with red stripe into either the parkers or brake circuit. Then you need to cut out the hole for the lamp holder to twist into and run wires across to the other side. Try and find some lower powered bulbs as well, the factory bulb is super bright and is annoying for the persons driving behind you.

I was hoping someone had converted their car on stock parts. I had noticed there was one socket already in place, I tried twisting it off but it seems a bit stuck. I also was disappointed seeing the other side was moulded in plastic, where did you get the socket from?

Looking at wreckers and stuff for those sockets, would these light sockets be universal between all gen liberties, particularly gen 2? So could I get a gen 2 light socket and use it in my gen 3?

I think they are the same globe. But you'd have to be cutting the plastic and plastic welding it in there anyway.
