Hi all

On Friday the "AT TEMP" words were flashing on my dash. At the same time indicators were not working and I could not put gear to reverse or park. Luckily I was parked at work so popped the bonnet looked under and found no leaks or traces of overheating or burning smells.

Got 2 workmates to push the car back (as I couldn't engage reverse gear) and made my way to STechnic.

The workshop found that the 15A fuse for hazard lights had died and simply replaced it. And car was ok again no more flashing and ok to engage reverse gear.

Today whilst driving to a mate's place - same thing happened again so I replaced the fuse as my mechanics did.

Any ideas why this could be happening?

Have not done any mods to the car lately.

Am running LED parkers, turn indicators, foggies and brake lights. And HID reverse and low + high beam.

Am wondering if its anything to do with any of the 4 LED turn indicators?

Dan - no.. Flashing at normal speeds.

You can't be running LED indicators without changing the Relay over?

Kieran I'll check. Pretty sure the guy did install relays and etc back in late 2011 otherwise it'd have been flashing real quickly then. Even now it's flashing normal speeds. Hmmm.

If your fuse is blowing now after 1.5 years of operation, in my opinion some of the following could be happening,

1, Due to the wet / cold weather you are getting moisture on your relay and / or connectors which is causing an intermittent short.
2, Your relay coils are drawing a high load due to moisture etc.
3, some wiring is starting to rub and wear away the insulation and touches the chassis.

If you have just had lights fitted and the fuse blows then i would look at the equipment specification and the load, however if it has in fact been fine all this time then you most definitely have a fault somewhere.

If you know someone who is handy with a multimeter (digital volt meter) I recommend taking some readings of A, the load, B, the resistance to the chassis, and C, the voltage during switching. Also check the way your lights behave with side indication and hazards. If it is a fault, the hazard load may trigger it.

Also to save on fuses, get a resettable fuse from Jaycar or Alltronics (Or possibly Repco or something like that) while your testing things. Nothing worse than trying to find a fault and running out of fuses, and you don;t want to be linking it out with something like this, not on cars.. otherwise some serious damage can occur.
