New Steering Wheel... Possible?

The steering wheel on my MY06 GT is looking worse for wear. Finish is coming off on it pretty bad, which I must admit I very supprised about.

Was wondering if anyone knows if the steering wheel off the current GT (Which has audio controls & paddle shift) will simply plug into my car?

I know that the Spec B's in my gen had the steering wheel control on the manuals.

Cheers
Matty

I'm not usre, I'm curious to know too.

Apparently the JDM steering wheel for pre-facelift is a smaller diameter wheel... ;)

You also may have to take into consideration the Airbag inside the steering wheel!

Chances are that the steering will fit with out a problem but i don't think the electronics will be a direct fit...

Also, the steering column is different which means that the back covers, etc of the wheel may not fit.

Did they really change that much in the facelift?

The main reason I was interested in the new wheel was because it had paddle shift (For the auto) & it had the audio controls. All in all I think its much better suited for the type of car the Liberty is.

Yes, on the new wheel, you have push/pull adjustments as well as tilt, plus all the controls (ie audio, padle and #S mode). And cruise control is also on the wheel - no stalk like the old wheel.

How are you going to connect the audio, cruise and padle controls to your car? That will be you main issue.

sorry, but MY06 was released earliest Aug 05.

subaru warranty is 3 years, which means end Aug 08...

now is Feb 08...

i'd go in and ask them to fix it, esp if it's finishing on plastics and all that... if it's the leather, you can actually pay someone to redo it, but will be pricey.

If it was my wheel and I had that problem I would get it re-trimmed in my choice of covering/colour, stitching colour and pattern. Black suede with red baseball stitching thankyou :D

lol
looks like i didnt explain myself properly...

I meant the part about the newer steering wheel with the audio and peddle shift functions and i heard that they have the cruise control on the steering wheel now as well.

I toyed with the idea a while ago. The plugs from the wheel to the steering column are different from pre to post facelift due to the addition of the SI drive buttons on the wheel. From what I could figure, it looked like I'd have to hack into looms to re-plug either wheel or column to suit.

^^^ Correct :) - I think :P

There are a reasonable amount of after market steering wheels coming out of Japan these days + there is a paddle shift kit for the auto's which may be worth looking into (Although costs are rather high).

I could be wrong, but I thought the pre-faced 3RB came with steering wheel controls...? If so, if you could buy that kit, you could make it work with the standard steering wheel (Although you'd have to get the paddle kit for the auto if you wanted to retain that feature) or an after market wheel.
