Not sure what the Liberty's are like but the Forester has an oval indented into the tail gate so you can't actually get it wrong! It just goes back perfectly into place ;)

i just went all through this to find out if the rear badge on a 06 pre face can be painted. There is 2 guides off the back of the badge leaving a hole and i want to get it back on asap but the badge doesnt seem to pull apart.

Should i get a front bumper badge for the rear so i can colour code both?

is the spec b boot difertent?

The badge pulls apart, I can't remember how I did it. Think I pried it open with a flathead, there is some glue holding the back on.

are there clips on the inside of the boot lid holding the badge on or is it stuck on with double side tape and the guides are to keep it sitting correctly?

Most people it seems have modded their front badge on the grill, as im interested in modding the rear badge i am just trying to get as much info as possible, not trying to be a pain for anyone, as if it is indeed attached from the inside as i have seen cars in the past done then trying to pry it off will essentially cause damage, that is all, simple question

I could not see a way so i have bought another front grille badge to do the rear. With the boot being angled i have cut the dimples lining the badge to sit the opposite way which tilts the badge slightly up as it would face even further down otherwise. I have sucessfully painted that and will be putting it on tomorrow.

The rear badge is not bolted on but has strong doublesided tape and 2 guide holes (not bolts) to align correctly. Is that ok Brunzy3.0?

oh and rhe rear would not pull apart - atleast not without damage. i used fishing line all aroung and the holes are slightly lower than half way so pull from the top down.

I did my rear badge on my wagon, and I'm thinking something as simple as the badge should be very similar if not the same between sedan and wagon, just heat her up, I used a heat gun, pry very carefully, and use some fishing line wire or a Stanley knife to cut the double sided tape between the car and badge as you pry it off, it does take time and you must be careful! then once off you just gotta clean both sides and paint your badge

My rear badge was completely different to the front. Couldn't see how it pulled apart after I cleaned all the tape. It doesn't matter now. I have a front badge on the rear, rotated to angle upward to offset the boot angle

I should invest In a few more tools than what I have

Decided to give this a go, have had a set of spare badges lying around for just this. Went with a gloss black to fit my upcoming black and white theme which I should have a major update to my profile with in about 2 months.

I originally tried 400 wet and dry like Mark suggested but the badges were looking really cloudy and I have no experience with wet sanding so I assumed I was doing something wrong. I went and bought 800, 1000 and 1200 grit and did it in stages and although it made the badge a lot smoother it was still cloudy. I then decided to see what would happen if I polished the badges using some of my Autoglym resin polish which I don't use for anything. And I was able to make the badges come up looking as clear as glass 8)

For the painting I used a plastic coating spray initially to help the paint bond to the smooth surface, and then used 4 coats of the gloss black spray.

Huge thanks to Mark for the great guide.

Here are a few photos of the process.

I found this was a really easy way of putting the tape on. Just placing the badge on some paper and then taping over it and using a sharp stanley knife to cut the tape in a nice line around the badges.

Will give them another mini polish when the paint is properly dried just before I put them on the car tomorrow.
