I'd already placed the order by that stage. Where can I find the JDM honeycomb grill? I hadn't found that design in my initial search, but if there's a local source, I may cancel my order and get that local grill.

Full details are in the link I provided previously - ring Sydney City Subaru's Parts Dept and talk to Gary. That's where I got mine. They'll quote you the retail price and just ask politely if they can do a better price. They should hopefully then offer you the trade price.

If they won't ship it, I'm sure a Sydney member will happily assist you.

Sweet, cheers. I'll give them a call Monday. I might try the local Brisbane retailer first, just in case they have one on offer that I can drive in and pick up.

Update:

Called stores in Brisbane, they don't have stock and can only get it from the Sydney warehouse. Because of that, there's no wiggle room on the price, allegedly. Cost with delivery and GST is ~$530. Called Syndey directly, and they don't sell to the public, and they said to get a Brisbane store to order it for me.

Have emailed garage88 and another seller on here to see if they can source one for me. Am yet to hear back though. Is Phat still active, does anyone know? Barring that, would someone in Sydney be willing to buy the part for me if that's a bit cheaper, and ship it up?

Call Sydney City Subaru who are the guys I called to get mine (see previous link for phone number). See if you can secure trade price there. If they won't ship to Brisbane, get a Sydney forum member to pick it up for you and ship it to you at additional cost. Would probably cost absolutely no more than $10 to send to you.

The number you provided was the number I rang. When I called, I was told they didn't have one in stock - that's when I told them a store in Brisbane had said they were only able to get it from Sydney. That's when the guy in Sydney said they probably saw the stock in a warehouse, a location that doesn't ship to the public. He then told me to get it ordered from the warehouse through a Brisbane retailer. I'm just chasing my tail here, by the sounds of it.

Anyone in Sydney able to do me a favour? I can pay a bit extra for the trouble.

Hmmm... That's disappointing of them as I had a great experience myself. They should be able to order it in for you to collect a few days later.

Continue ringing around (try Docklands in Melbourne too). If you secure one in the Sydney Metro area, PM me so we can sort out financials and I'll be happy to collect and ship for you.

Great, thanks mate.

I've made an inquiry through 'http://www.amayama.com/'; I got a match on the part number and they can allegedly source the part for USD $220 odd (snap). I'm expecting a reply within the next 1-3 days.

If that doesn't pan out for whatever reason, I'll send you a PM.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I'm interested in the part also. Best discount I could get was $500 from Subaru Sydney.

Also check with Subaru Genuine Parts in the US. I've obtained a few things from there relatively cheap previously, with only shipping being the annoyance in the price department.

(A quick search on the grille part number shows no matches, but you can also try emailing them)

I ended up buying from www.amayama.com. They have the part for ~$230 USD. Converting currency, and with postage to Brisbane, it came to about $293 AU. Pretty damn good. Just enter the part number into the Amayama website, and submit an enquiry. They get back to you after 1-3 business days once they've found a part, and then ask you if you want to commit to buy. Delivery is est. 14 days from Japan.

Garage 88 also has them; I was quoted $430, which included the Subaru badge (~$50) and postage ($10). I don't think the Amayama part will come with the badge.

Good stuff. Great price too.

Have fun with your badge. Getting it off the old grille can be a bastard...

I've heard the same... I'm willing to try though, seeing as I can potentially save $50.

Any pointers/tips on getting it off? Or just try my luck with some fishing wire?

It's just held on with a slab of double-sided tape, but it's bloody good stuff that Subaru use.

You just need to pry up the side carefully using a non-metal wedge (like the edge of a sacrificial CD to push in there and pull up), then once you've managed to get your fingers in there, you need to slowly pull it until the tape gives way - it will put up a good fight.

See my post about my experience here.
