Paint Issue

Hey Guys,

Just when I thought I was finished with the modding scene I stumbled upon this site and decided to make my first post today. I use to own a HPI cover Toyota Soarer with T78 Turbo. Loved the car to bits!! Unfortunately I needed something more practical due to lots of house renovations, hence I decided to get with the Liberty wagons and never looked back. My first Liberty was a 2000 Heritage wagon. Very nice but then I begain to have history of bag luck with this car. So then I decided to trade it up for a 2007, MY08 wagon simply because I love the look of this car and model. I really wanted the GT version though! Oh well maybe one day

My current Liberty that I have was purchased as a second hand car at Denlo 11 months ago, with 104,000kms, Sydney. It was only until the 3 yr new car warranty finished that I noticed that some of the clear coat and probably the paint itself was slowly coming off on the rear spoiler and the paint between the Subaru emblem to the window. I brought this to the attention of the Subaru mechanics at Denlo and Gladesville but they said Warranty is over and won't be covered. Unfortunately, the Inchcape warranty doesn't cover it either. I am pretty cheesed because the car is quite new and I never expected this sort of quality from Subaru! I was thinking of writing a letter to the head office and complain and hoped that they would fix this for free.

Should I cop this on the chin fork out my own money to get this fixed or winge to Subaru head office?

My understanding is that these 2 pieces are plastic. The rear piece from the first photo can be taken off individually, and obviously there is the same option with the rear spoiler, so they are a different material from the car and that may result in a difference of the reflection.

In saying that tho, if the clear coat is missing it might be worth a call to head office, but my suggestion is that because your not the original owner they wont be that helpful. The good news is that because they are both relatively small, detachable pieces they might not be that expensive to have fixed.

I may be wrong and if so someone will be along to correct me.

Hey mate welcome, write a letter the worst they can say is no. If that's the case I can quote you $200 to paint both parts to go towards my "fix the spun bearing fund"

Thanks for your post guys. I know for sure that the spoiler is plastic but not sure about the other part. It's definitely not because they are different materials. I will try and write a letter to Head Office anyhow and see how I go.

This might be a little late, but as a spray painter this sort of thing is very uncommon for a car that age. It fairly new and I think the car would have been damaged in that area... Maybe had another car run upthe back of it.
It's very unlikely this happen from factory so soon so i think that the smash repairer that fixed your car before you had bought it used a cheap quality clear coat.
Although I can't tell for sure just by photos that's just what I think.
