Aftermarket Stereo Options

Postby Clayton » Sat Jul 23, 2011 5:08 pm

Howdy all, I'm used to having an MP3-CD player in my car and my 05 Liberty 2.5i Wagon has the standard CD player with no AUX input or anything of the like.

I've noticed it's not a single or double DIN stereo, it's a one piece console that includes the stereo and climate control features all in one.

What are the options for aftermarket stereos for this type of set-up? am I stuck with what I've got or can I get a later model set up with adapts to the switchgear in the console at the moment etc.?

I'm in Adelaide and am willing to drive/pay for a job well done if that's what it takes.

So far it's my only sore point with the car.

Thanks for any help or advice that can be offered.

Do some searching through the audio thread. There are a few options available.

New fascia kit for the installation of new head units.
Hook up a processor to the OEM HU
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

I was in the same boat - go figure, an 05 car with tape deck & no aux in!!

As Garbo said, you can get a new fascia kit that separates the stock stereo from the HVAC. It's not cheap though, you're looking at around $400 for that alone. That will allow you to install any aftermarket HU. I know some guys have hacked the CD changer input to make it an aux in for iPods..

Search is your best friend mate!

What's your budget?

My cousin has a 03 STI and he upgraded this stereo to a DVD/MP3 touch screen set up. I do like the functionality of the touch screen and iPod connectivity but because I'm relatively conservative, I want the stock look.

Whats your preference?
