I forgot about this thread hehehe.

After much thinking and daily looking at the wrinkly tattered boots on my car I have finally ordered my new shifter and handbrake boots from Redline. I settled for blue coloured Alcantara (replica fabric), with red stitching. If the ladies in their Polish sewing shop work as hard as they reportedly do, I should have them by next week! Will put pics up for sure :D.

The handbrake boot went in pretty easily, however the shifter boot did not fit that well and did require some trimming to get right (the diameter of the boot at the bottom edge was just too big and so I had to tuck more of it around the plastic retainer ring than the stock one. This required cutting some slots to clear the mounting clips for the retaining ring. Once the ring is clipped back into the console trim, it all looks neat though.

I ordered the shifter boot 1.2" shorter to match my short shifter; the height turned out perfectly.

The glue used is Tarzan's Grip. Basically I coated all plastic surfaces with it then let sit for a few minutes before pressing the fabric on and worked really well.

Pics!

With the shifter boot I had to tuck around 8mm around the inside of the ring. The stock one ends on the bottom of the ring and doesn't tuck all the way around.

Thanks Harry :D

Digital: I chose blue because my car is blue. It's also a colour that goes with the black and grey/silver interior. I chose red stitching as it matches the red illumination of the centre console instruments, and it is also a nice contrasting colour for the blue.

For all you auto drivers considering shift boots, I ordered one from Redline. Got them to shorten it by 1inch ... had no idea how short it needed to be on an auto stick, but I knew it would be shorter than a stock manual.

Now that I have got the boot, it wouldn't hurt if it was even shorter. Here is a pic of what it looks like. Looks awesome - now I only half regret getting an auto ...

They weren't that expensive as redline had a sale on. 39USD + 9USD shipping.

Do the MY07's have the round gear section? If so I am not sure if this will fit. I saw a leather shift boot for those models on http://www.japanparts.com.

Installation wasn't that hard ... remove two screws at the bottom of the armest console, and you can the lift that whole section up. Then you pry up the chrome rim, and then the bottom centre console section.

Only thing is it's bit of a bodge job since the auto doesn't have the mounting bracket that clips under the centre console section. So you will need to glue it underneath the centre console, and also onto the chrome ring. You will need to glue the chrome ring to the centre console as well as I removed the centre piece that sat over the shift gate (that section with the gear indicators), as the chrome doesn't have anything to clip into to hold it into place.

when i get a chance I will post up a pic of my version of the shift boot...

I bought a plain black momo shift boot and hacked it a little (I already had a MOMO gear knob) its almost as simple as screwing the shift boot to the gear knob after positioning and then wrap it over the ring cut holes where the teeth of the ring are and trim back the excess leather and clip it in to place...

if you really like the silver ring then I can't help ya.....
