right side rear view mirror broken

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

right side rear view mirror broken

Postby karnash » Sat Sep 04, 2010 10:32 am

Hi,

I have a Subaru liberty MY05 and last evening a truck drove close and touched and broke the right side rear view mirror. He then refused to accept that he drifted on the left side when I was stationary.

Can anyone please advise where can I find the mirror. I am not sure but Subaru would charge a lot for it.

Your guidance is appreciated. Thank you

sorry to hear, your best bet would be a wrecker but they may not sell the mirror unless you buy the door too.

is it just the edge of the mirror or the mounting point as well.

Edit:
 what Arith said below, didn't occur to me you may have the trucks details.

You could try the recyclers like Just Jap Auto (http://www.justjap.com.au/).

However, if I was in this situation, I would report this to my insurance company. Give them the details on what happened, and how the other driver refused responsibility. As long as you have the rego of the truck that caused the damage (his personal details would be good too), your insurance company will do the investigation and put in a claim against whatever insurance company is insuring that truck if they feel your situation is legitimate. And if the final decision is in your favour, you don't pay a penny to get your mirror repaired.

the black plastic which holds the mirror is broken.

The mirror is fine. I am reluctant to call the insurance as I am not sure if they will entertain my claim.

If it's not your fault and you have the other driver's details then just claim and let them do the legwork.

to be honest...I got a bit scared.......the truckie seemed a bit dangerous and so I told him its ok......I will get it fixed...

so now if I call the insurance, then it might back fire....thats what I am scared of.

Hey go easy on him and his dignity, second only to women picking their children up from school of an afternoon, no one rages harder than a truck driver.

All that caffenine and dealing with traffic snarl all day is enough to give anyone in a poor disposition, reasoning with truck drivers at the end of a long shift is tough
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!
