SUCK!

GF was driving today (safely) and a green P-plater barged in front of her as she was braking for traffic.

ended up being shunted into said junior.

now the boot lid dun close properly, front is messed up, and the P Plater is blaming the GF for moving into the lane that she was already in.

photos here (can't be arsed thumbnailing, etc. taken with my work blackberry).

latch for the boot lid is about 4cm further in :( will be swapping out the yellow "rope" for something a bit kinder to the paintwork when I get home (or a different way of tying down.

Will of the damaged lib :(

Got witnesses? I have always wanted an in-camera system that records whenever driving, just for situations like this!

The guy that rear-ended us agreed with the GF on the fact that the van pulled in front whilst braking, so it's not looking good for the van driver.

oh... apparently the van drivers' missus also agreed that the gf was already in the middle lane when he barged in...

one quote down, another to go (tomorrow) then wait for events to unfold.

GF has a bruised collarbone from the pre-tensioner/read-end... know if that's a one-shot deal and needs to be replaced too?

Yes, I'm pretty sure the pre-tensioner is an explosive device like the airbags, and has to be replaced.

+1. I'm sure it needs to be replaced if it fires

bugger :(
will have to mention that to the guy that I got the first quote from then.

brighter note... I've managed to bend the metalwork where the boot latch is out a little so I can close the boot again. still looks crap though :(

Hahaahah. That's a ripper. Fortunately it"s not that bad. Talking to the guy at the second workshop if the pretensioner had gone off the airbag light would be flashing and I wouldn't be able to plug in the belt.

dunno... that's the prob for the insurance companies to work out.
but because the GF was shunted into the van, I shouldn't have to pay any excesses :D *crosses everything*

bad news? can't get into the repairers until 11 Jan and they'll need the car for about 2 weeks

Can I borrow someone else's lib during that time? :D

sorry to hear that mate. Its just crazy how easily people start changing the story and pinning the problem on someone else. Bloody P platers.
Its just BS how its such an inconvenience to lose the car for a couple of weeks

Dan
(im a P plater btw) :P

Hey Will,

make sure you encourage your insurance company to use a Subaru Preferred Repairer...

Go and have a chat to Andy at Phil Mundays in Kilsyth.... they currently have my Lib in there, from when the entire drivers side of my car was backed into 2 weekends ago....

Their work is excellent, are assessors for Allianz, and even AAMI are allowing me to get my car repaired there...

yer... after this I'll prolly be looking at a new insurer to see if I can get better rates (~$960/yr with $500 excess iirc currently with QBE) and better options. I didn't really get much say in where it was going. Would have been nice if they had given me the details for Subaru preferred repairers.

FWIW it's going to be going to Oven Baked Enamel Services in Ringwood (aka the MX5 factory). preferred the place in wantirna but i'm guessing these guys had the lower quote.
