Who would have thought, but Aldi's Motorbike helmets are on sale for $89! These are Australian Standard Approved, so perfectly legal to use on your bike or at a track day. Good buy for anyone looking for a cheaper alternative if they just want to sit as a passenger at a track day or have a one off trackday without spending truck loads.

I remember when I started to race Karts. My mum was always looking for ways to save money, I had the cheapest race suit you could buy, shoes, gloves, everything......except for one thing. I got my Ayrton Senna replica Arai helmet. I can still hear her say to this day:
"a ten dollar helmet, for a ten dollar head!"
Dont skimp on safety.

haha, awesome quote.
I would say these helmets should be fine though, as long as they meet the appropriate safety standards.

If it was me, I would go the extra length and get a really good helmet, I ride dirtbikes so you need good protection and ive only used Fox to date cause they are excellent at how they construct their stuff for protection. if its just tracking your car motoX helmets are fine to use (i think? Cause a mate uses one for drag raciing) plus the visior can be removed

.
Thats just coming from my point of view.

Well if they're meeting the Australia Standards (Can't remember what they're called) The one with them red/silver stickers, then I assume they're pretty decent when it comes to safety. I'm not going to go out on a bike with these on, but in a car, I think it'll be right.

Congratualtions, you have just bought a helmet certified to as/nzs 2063....the safety standard in australia for BICYCLE helmets.
The applicable as/nzs standard is 1698.
Dont skimp on safety.....your head hitting the window and the dash (when your car inadvertantly rolls because you had to change lines, cause some knob decided to go under you in the braking zone and you didnt want him to hit you) is every bit the impact of falling off a dirt bike.
Get one to the right standard, and preferably, make sure it has a SNELL approved sticker on it.

Snell? Plenty of for and against arguments for their certification requirements. Personally, for the bike I'd be getting Snell or Dot certified/approved helmets. If I didn't have a motorcycling use for a helmet and was only getting one for trackdays I probably wouldn't go so far

Well if you were able to go to the link, you'll notice is it AS/NZs 1698 sorry if I miscommunicated anyhting with the standards.

I've just checked with the scrutineers in the MG club, and they advised:
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PROMOTE THESE TO OUR MEMBERS
Because they are being advertised as Motorcycle helmets it is 99.9% certain
that they are not suitable for motorsport use.
You might think that as they are AS 1698 certified that they are, but
there is a catch. This standard covers helmets that are certified for either
motorcycle or vehicle use, and the helmets have to pass different tests for
each use. The only way that you can tell is by looking at the label sewn
inside the helmet. On that label it will say either:-
For motorcycle use only
Or Vehicle users helmet
Helmets suitable for motorcycle use only are not permitted to be used in
motor cars and certainly not for motorsport.
We have already spotted a couple of these being used and knocked them back.
