Reverse Camera Image Quality

I'm trying to determine the reason for the poor image quality of the reversing camera on my 2011 Liberty. The display is clear when showing the Subaru logo when powered on and the audio details so it's not the display at fault (see attached). When reverse is selected the image is very poor quality, basically unusable.

Is the camera a known faulty component in this model? If so is there a quality alternative I could fit?
