Hey guys just wondering i have a rattle noise which sounds like its coming from underneath the car. Sounds like its coming from right where the gear knob is. Only happens when im on a bumpy road. And also when the car stalls theres a big clunk? just wondering if this is normal or should i take the car to subaru to see whats wrong?

Says the guy with the auto

Yes, get it checked out. Don't want a drive shaft coming loose on the highway.

I'd be thinking the clunk when stalling is probably just normal driveline lash. If you're worried then definitely get it checked out though.

The rattle could be anything, I've seen loose brackets, exhausts that have moved/been bent from bottoming out rubbing against the body etc. Given that it sounds like it's right under the gear knob, exhaust or possibly the cat (though you'd feel that in regular bouts of extremely bad performance) is definitely possible. But yeah, could be anything really, sorry :?

exhaust rattle on one of the hangers closest to your gearbox.

vibration from stalling , rattles the exhaust and the vibration transferred thru the gearstick.

best avoid stalling...lol

get a new rubber hanger on your exhaust mount...
