Hi all,

New to the forum from the UK.

I have a JDM 2004 GTB auto and would like to fit a transmission oil cooler (I previously had an SVX with the 4EAT transmission that died due to overheating and don't want a repeat!)

Before I get into that, does the car already have one as standard (the Skyline that I had before had one as standard).

If not, is there an aftermarket kit? I have done a search but there are not many references apart from going for the Subaru standard unit.

Hi Mate. From my understanding if it had a tow pack fitted as a factory option then it should have a transmission cooler attached. Be just behind your grille if it is.

I have a V6 Commodore aka Vauxhall (?) trans cooler I will add to my car soon. No need to go factory, size is the main concern and with regard to fitting behind everything.

In Australia, if you get the tow bar / pack installed you 100% get the tranny cooler.

There are a number of aftermarket options from Japan available (Zero Sports, Wangan R), but unless you're planning on doing a heap of track work, the OEM Subaru unit will do the job

I was having a closer look in the engine bay yesterday and there are two pipes coming from the RHS of the transmission (as you look from the front) and run down the top of the chassis rail towards the headlight then disappear just behind the headlight down into the bumper area between the front wheel and the fog light. Looks like a possibility, but seems an odd place to put a cooler, protected from any air!! I will have to take the inner arch lining out and have a look what it is!

The cooler is mounted in behind the front re-enforcment bar (If I'm not mistaken).

It'll be about the same length as your grill & about 20mm thick.

You should be able to actually see it through the grill if you have one. Rather easy to spot once you know where they are

Many auto cars run their coolers as intercoolers in a radiator tank - warms up the oil faster as the rad has a thermostat, cools the tranny oil when its hotter than the water. Dont know what Suby do...

Yes, the transmission oil goes through the radiator in the Liberty.
