I know that most of us here probably don't or can't use E10 fuel, but Drive have produced an interesting article about E10, regular and Premium unleaded fuel.

I would also like to add that I neither agree nor disagree with this article.

It's true that Ethanol burns less efficiently. Not so sure about the power claims, I mean, four different drivers of the 'same car', no matter how well trained they are, will drive differently and have different foot weights (i.e. how lead-footed they are).

Ethanol has less energy per litre than unleaded. Not sure just how much but in the end it translates to lower fuel economy in much the same way as LPG, except that LPG is priced quite cheaply in comparison to unleaded whereas ethanol is being used to reduce costs for the fuel suppliers rather than offer a cheaper alternative

I use the 98 RON premium exclusively in mine. I tend to use Mobil mostly then BP

oh, and btw, regular unleaded is 91RON. Premium in Australia is still 95RON.

When are our refiners here going to go the extra effort and give us the 102 and such that our cars were originally designed for? *sigh*

no ethanol for me, car refused to start after 3rd top up from half tank...shane

102 i am not sure about that rating....in japan they have 100 octane, that is what my car is meant to run on

i used to use bp racing in my bike but it was 100 octane lead fuel. bike when really good though

100 is it? must have had my numbers crossed I guess

It's hard to work out if that Drive article is deliberately deceptive, or if the author is just an idiot.

In an environment where Fairfax is struggling for advertising revenue, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if (by pure coincidence) one or more of the large oil companies has just agreed to a big advertising package.

That's normally how these things work.

both my libs run on 98 (except when my wife fills which i try to avoid) and even if the performance is in my imagination i just feel better knowing that it's slightly better quality.
