[NSW] Under Engine Stone guard advice Liberty GT-B

Hi, I searched the forum for advice on under engine plastic stone guard but no hit.

For a: MY07 Subaru Liberty GT-Bspec.
I bought the car and it has no black under engine plastic stone guard.

Are all liberty/Outback 2.5L the same or does the GT turbo one have heat shielding or anything different? Is H6 different?

I notice the outback seems to have more sound deadening.

Does anyone have a GT one spare?

Is there much risk transporting the car on a truck without the front stone guard?

I assume we are talking about the plastic under-tray. I've never heard it called a stone guard before but tomayto/tomaaato.

Getting a replacement from the wrecker is probably your best bet.

1. I don't know about Liberties. The turbo Forester has no heat shielding for its under-tray. There is a reasonable chance that all under-trays for a given chassis are the same or at least "all fit". A GT owner around here might be prepare to post a picture of theirs.

2. that could be oil-absorption padding.

4. No risk. You can even drive them without an under tray. The airflow through the radiator will be less efficient without it, but most seem to survive just fine.

I think we have 4-5 of those covers off various cars. They come off at first oil change and NEVER go back on. They stop nuts and bolts etc from dropping through to the ground when doing work in the engine bay. I think they would be good in places where you can drive at any speed , like on autobarns but at our slow speed highways having them missing makes no difference. They can also hide oil and coolant leaks. The Liberty one was already gone.. sorry.

The padding is for oil absorbtion.

Its not so much a stone guard but an aero device to help create a low pressure zone under the car so that the air in the engine bay is drawn out into the low pressure stream (and thus creating a pressure differential across the radiator and intercooler ). I'd strongly recomend getting one as our dear old Libs need all the help they can get to stay cool.

Absolutely, but many run without the the undertray with no negative effects.

No empirical data tho, but its a common thing eg for cars with aftermarket headers w/o any wrap or coating.

I use mine, stock is fine. I’d definitely consider an off-road bash guard too…

Or make one in ally or steel, even

On opposed forces, we see the part numbers here for postfl GT, useage information (click the item) says it fits all gen4 GT turbo models.

Which is not to say n/a models won’t fit, but it will be suck and see: probably due to the attachment points on the front crossmember, different as turbo models must clear the dump pipe at that point (conjecture).
