Also thinking of 235/40/18 on a 18 x 7.5 rim.

I heard Goodride were something to consider.

If you are going to drive your car hard and enjoying it's power and handling ability, awesome braking etc, I would be going for a known and proven brand like bridgestone , michelin, toyo, etc. If you buy them when they are doing 4 for the price of 3 they are not that expensive. I have enough to worry about these days without wondering if my cheap tyres are going to cope with the unexpected pot hole half way round a very exciting series of sharp bends... I know even the good brands have factories in 3rd world countries but they still maintain a good reputation over many years so they must be doing something right. What ever happened to Kumho .. You don't hear much about them these days. They seemed to fade into obscurity when the big manufacturers forced the fed Gov into raising the duty on them so they were no longer half the price of the others. I had 2 sets on my Blue car many years ago. They were a nice tyre. I'm still loving the RE003s and PS4s ..

I ended up getting a great price for the Advans 235/40/18 fitted to 7.5 wide rim with 48 offset.

Turned out a perfect fit inside the guards with no rub.

Is there much sidewall bulge? How much clearance on the back of the tyres, more than 10mm?

I changed out the stock 18x7 which had 225's on them. Fitted perfectly and years ago when we ran 13" rims 7" rims were recommended 225's. We ran 215's on 6-1/2" rims.

Little or no bulge 7.5" wide is actually the recommended width for 235. Went 235/40/18 and this tyre is quite square. Only 2.5mm less than stock in radius

There is plenty of clearance with 48 offset and never hits the guards. The tyre guy and I checked both front (full lock each way) and rear on the ground before fitting 4.

The grip is outstanding, quiet and comfortable.

The only thing I would say is if you want super comfort and a cheaper rim solution go for 17x 7.5 rims and use a higher profile tyre.
