Further boost leak issues (i think)

Postby Gen5Miles » Thu May 06, 2021 2:11 pm

I have tried all the solutions i thought were the boost leak im hearing in the low end especially when driving in auto and the car is cold. First was bov, then turbo inlet hose/intercooler hose they have like 5 different names its a little irritating. Just did the intercooler to throttle body hose, although not specified on the part (mishimoto for g3 wrx) it did end up fitting which makes sense to me as but im no expert. is pressing slightly on the corner of the intercooler though. All these parts although they were leaking were not the sound i was hearing. its especially noticeable when the engine hits boost for the first time that drive and gets less prominent as it warms up further. Also when driving in auto you can hear it between gears if youre not higher in the rpm. im just looking for a point in the right direction, i have alot to learn about these cars still.

If its a fart/quack noise: stock intercooler leaking.

I use parallel pliers to re-crimp the ally tabs to the plastic end tanks, the jaws need to open around 20mm to squash the tabs flat.

Okay, will be trying this. May even go to a wrecker and get another intercooler if i find it to be leaking, or go straight to front mount :). Thanks again

Any stock tmic with k’s is likely to be leaking.

But the recrimp seems to work well.

anyone ever converted the liberty gen V to a wrx intercooler or similar with the bov mounted onto the intercooler so it is closer to the throttle body, would this not be advantageous, i wonder why they did the setup that is present in the genv liberty. you would have to a new intercooler hose that didnt have the connection to the bov, and maybe some adjustments to the intercooler mounting. would this require any tuning (outside for the adjustment in piping diameter i dont think so but im not exactly an expert) I feel like doing this. idk why.
