2005 Liberty turbo advice please

Postby MadMac » Fri Mar 20, 2020 10:55 pm

Good Evening all,
New to this group, and happy to be here.
I have my first Liberty GT (2005 model), purchased about 8 months ago , which I really love, but I'm now experiencing my first major issue.
My turbo has stopped functioning, a mechanic mate of mine is going to pull it out tomorrow to find out what the issue is, I'm hoping it's just the actuator stuck open or a basic issue with the waste gate, however I'm preparing for the worst.
My question is, What options do I have regarding a replacement turbo? I need to get it done, as my baby is so bloody sluggish right now, I'm contemplating whether I replace it with a stock original or whether there is a better option? I just don't know enough about these cars yet, but I'm sure people on here do.
Can anyone please advise me of my best options right now? Also if anyone knows where I can get parts in Brisbane, that would be great.

Thanks
MadMac

Your symptoms are vague, what makes you think the turbo has failed?

You’d be best off searching the forum, as there’s 17 years of info here.
Read some FAQ’s as well, links in my signature :)

Here’s an example site specific search to get you started:

I think you wound your clock too far foward at the start of summer!
Forum was created October 2006, so we're still only 13 and a bit, i.e. only just started our teens.

Absolutely! Yet in 2006 some owners, or more specifically, gen4’s were 3 years in need of advice. :P

So technically I’m wrong on all counts ;)

Anyhow replacement turbos are somewhat limited for prefl, that’s going to be a td04hla, vf38, or a kinugawa or Kando td04hla 19 or 20t with the 8.5cm2 housing upgrade. Or any of those rebuilt/upgraded eg by rose rage turbos on FB, etc.
