FOB/Immobilizer failure at physical location in Sydney

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

FOB/Immobilizer failure at physical location in Sydney

Postby LibertyPrime » Fri Feb 28, 2020 3:04 pm

Last week i came across an interesting issue where i had to call out NRMA. I was at the back of Bankstown Airport in Sydney, on Tower Road next to the Helicopter transport. There is a corner of the road there, and i parked there, turned off the car, tried to turn it back on and nothing. Car didnt see the keys anymore, key light came on.

Called out NRMA, guy said Immobilzer is screwed, will need to be re-coded at Subaru, here's a workaround till you get it fixed. Great another $1k down the drain for fixes im thinking.

Get home, FOBs work fine. FOBs seem to work fine everywhere. So i go back to the location, and sure enough, at the same spot my FOBs stop working. If i park further up the road there is no issue.

Location is the bend between 61 (helicopters) tower road and 65 (sofa international) tower road, off Henry Lawson Drive.

Has anyone else come across something like this? Are there other locations this occurs at?

Car in question is a 2010 Liberty 2.5GT

Wow
I had a peep on google maps and there’s no obvious radar or sensor arrays nearby...

I'd hazard a guess there is a powerful radio transmitter on one of those buildings with some significant leakage close to the FOB frequency.
You'd need someone with a portable spectrum analyser to call by and have a look.

Happened to me years ago, in the carpark next to the Black Tower in Canberra, which is apparently common.

Yeah, some weird stuff happens at Carnes Hill shopping centre. Some spots/areas my car refuses to lock/unlock (with key and touch handle). Takes a few tries to get it to do something.
