98RON fuel pricing - what gives?

Postby Boxer » Wed Nov 19, 2008 9:01 pm

So is this a Brisbane thing or have other states noticed 98RON fuels are not coming down in price the same amount as ULP?

Normally 10c per litre is the premium paid over ULP

Caltex are now 12c more expensive for Vortex 98 over ULP, and Shell 13c

But all the media revolves around ULP so they can do what they like

I went to a BP here and filled up with ultimate which was 19c dearer than the advertised ULP. Then I went to a diferent BP and the diference was 12c???? Shouldnt all BPs be the same?
*I smell some profitering here* (maybe thats the biggest understatement of the year?)

Shell V-Power has a 13c premium across the whole country, the wholesale list price went up and it was raised by 4cpl to keep our margin.

i hear ya mate, but the difference is, now they have 91, 95 and 98, they advertise the price of 91 as the cheapest then 95 is "premium" and 98 ultimate or vortex or whatever.

Some places are tricky. They advertise their E10 prices which is usually cheaper than 91.

So even though your fuel is cheap at the bowser, is it actually cheaper than the more expensive fuels?? because your fuel economy is now really crap  your having to refill more often.
It may be worth paying those few extra C's P/L for the extra k's you get

Wholesale list price of what? Crude price drops have resulted in ULP drops. Both ULP and VPower are refined here, so wheres the wholesale increase?

98RON Vortex is still 10c per litre premium over ULP at my usual Caltex Woolies in Perth. Was $1.209 tonight, after 8c per litre discount.

Cheers,
Deucer.

Just checked the fuel docket and I paid 115.8 today for 98RON. From memory standard unleaded was about 108.

That's our cost price. It's higher relative to ULP, I meant.

With you now - But I never suspected its the servo's tacking the price up.

It's just another Jolly Rogering from the oil companies. PULP and Diesel dont attract the press or watchdogs so they price gouge there instead of ULP
