Nearly lost count of the number of rims I have broken or bent in the last 6 years. A recent trip to Upper Wilson’s Creek Road was a disaster. I thought I had only broken the tyre wall (big wall egg bulge) but it seems the rim was bent about 10mm on the inner edge.... sigh. But then Noticed that the rear tyre was deflating .... massive dent on inner edge of rim and two cracks.

My history is..
Pre facelift 7 spoke....
Tucabia - circa 2016 - split the wheel lengthwise after hitting road edge whilst avoiding on coming truck at ummm 100kph..
Byron Bay - circa 2017... Byron Council pot hole on Old Bangalow Road at 80kph bends rim ... instant flat tyre...
Post facelift 10 spoke
Upper Wilson’s Creek - Circa 2018 - Upper Wilson’s Creek Road errant rock blows out tyre and cracks rim...
Upper Wilson’s Creek - A month ago - Upper Wilson’s Creek Road massive pothole at pace... bends front rim, blows out side wall AND bends and cracks rear rim.

All up am left on 4 wheels with one of those bent but holding tyre...
Going to buy 2 rims to replace the spare and the bent one.....
Tyre guy recommend anSUV for my work .... could have smacked him.... alternatively I can put some big old tyres on 16 inch rims..... spare me.....
Worse thing is the blown tyre only had about 5,000km on it.....
Fortunately wreckers show $77. A rim plus $50 delivery.....

What size rims are you using.. It's common for big diameter wheels with very low profile tyres to wreck both tyre and wheel when hitting potholes or the shape edge on the side of the bitumen on roads without gutters.. I think 18s with 40 profile is about as big as I would be happy to go.

Running the stock 18x7 (7.5?) 10 spoke rims with 215/45 Bridgestone potenzas...

Unfortunately the 50,000 odd km a year I travel for work are at least one third on a road maintained by Byron Council... maintained is probably the wrong words as it implies they are actually maintained.....

If I keep the car when I finish working this run I am tempted to upgrade the whole thing... a great kido tuned engine after the last oil eater has restored faith in modifying the thing. Mind you kids grown up and so a smaller car will be in order and whilst the Rex appeals the Focus RS is damn appealing.......

Some nice rims there Benny.
I got a lightly marked stock replacement from the wreckers for $125.
Problem is the tyre profile is low but the rim needs to be big enough to clear the brakes. So far the Byron road system is meaner than the rims.....

Just a pity they’re relatively expensive locally.
I’m definitely considering buying a set of tough gravel spec 17’s for touring duty.

Grab a second hand set of Rays wheels in 17". Most don't have trouble clearing brakes, especially if they're made for 5x100 WRX STi

It would be nice to have a garage full of rim sets..... of course the first ones I looked at were $1,000 each...

Hey here is something that seems interesting.

Ever noticed it is hard to get the spare wheel out of the boot space as it seems to catch on the boot lining. It seems the 215/45/18 on 7 inch is a Japanese market specialty.q USA is, it seems, and I have not been able to identify this officially, that the stock is 215/40/18 or 205/45/18. Picked it up from here....

https://www.wheel-size.com/size/subaru/legacy/2009/

Their 17 inch wheel gets the 215/45 profile which is of course a little bit smaller and no doubt is easier to get out of the spare wheel space.
