So I have been out today playing with the paddle shifts in SS mode, trying to get used to using them. I have found that the car over-rides my intentions.. eg.. I stopped in 100k country road in SSharp and floor it in 1st , change to 2nd at 6k and wanting to do the same in 2nd, but, car decides to go to 3rd at approx 5krpm.. Does it every time...I don't know if it will change early into 3rd by its self as i am guessing i would be doing 160+ and there are other cars around.. However in "D" it revs out to redline in 1st and second and looks keen to do it in 3rd as well.... What is going on...is this normal or am I doing something wrong. I have been "searching" but can't find any discussion about this overriding action...Answers, thought and links appreciated.. Cheers..

Could it be a setting in your ECU from a previous tune?
You could always ask a Tune-Up specialist if that is possible, they may also be able to put you on the right track as to what why it does that.

My 2016 Honda CRV does a similar thing in S mode, when you floor it from a standstill it automatically changes to 2nd and from there on you use the paddles.
You can use the paddles earlier if you know what revs it changes into 2nd, I figure it is to stop the engine over revving in 1st and doing damage.

its probably coded into the tcu software, to save the auto box.
Isn’t the point of paddles to allow shifting eg lower in the rev range at peak torque?

Hhhmmm ok... I know nothing about autos and I had never heard of TCU :oops: until I started "searching" this issue. Surely changing to 3rd from 2nd at only 5krpm would put it in 3rd too low in the rev range.. If I leave it in "D" SS it revs out to almost redline and when it changes to 3rd it pulls harder than it does when it self changes at 5k.. Maybe it is a protection thing but I thought these trannies had enough built in protection ...
