clunking when steering left or right at extremes LIBERTY 08

I have a 08 liberty wagon gt spec b manual 82000 km
recently bought
I noticed that when getting out of a car park and turning steering wheel to the extreme left or right there is a temporary clunking which resolves when straightened and moving forward.
there also appears to have a vibration through the steering wheel when this clunking is happening?
any idea?
also I am not familiar with the acceleration as my usual driver is a porsche 993 4s ( 1997). I am not expecting like for like, as I used to drive an 08 liberty wagon but not gt and did not have this sponginess. but it seems spongy after gear change and accelerating. Not quick off the mark or sharp as I expect. Or am I expecting too much. gear change is easy
ideas?
had a recent service only a few thousand K's by the usual company.

Inspect front cv boots for tears and leaking grease.

Reco driveshafts are around $150 each from eg statewide driveshaft.

Or the centre diff may be binding, contact Corgiwerks, member billycorgi, for diagnosis and affordable upgrade/exchange for 5 & 6mt cars.

For the hesitation, replace auto trans fluid, or do a basic diagnostic check on the ecu for learning view and avcs vvt operation.

Hi, This is Peter from CorgiWerx.

The classic Centre Differential Viscous Coupling failures is a distinct BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG through the drive line (and yes, felt up through the seering wheel) when on tight turn at full lock.
It will be there when the car is hot, only to disappear when cold and only to reappaear again once more when hot.

BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG - Hot YES - Cold NO - Hot YES (again) are the classic symptoms.

As bigBADbenny says, contact me when you are ready to seek a repalcement rebuilt centre diff.

thank you for the feedback
I am in Adelaide
how much would it cost to repair the viscous coupling or replace and How do I go about getting the job done
the car is currently under the dealer warranty..who happens to be in Sydney
just to add to the complexity

Contact Douglas Johnson at AMPL Automotive at Shearer Dr, Seaford.
That would be a great start.
Douglas can help you out with the install.

Then, contact your dealer and get his directions about his associated workshop in Adelaide.

I have the opportunity to either get a new coupling or a reconditioned one .Spoke to AMPL at Seaford and they said getting an install from them is not a problem.

What are the pros and cons of getting a new or a recond unit?

One Mechanic said to me they have never done an install on a Suby before, but were comfortable they could do it once the instructions were included?????

quoted all up about 2500.00 dollars for new with install ...whereas AMPL said about 1200.00 for a recond unit all up

The question is new or recond unit...money is not an option........performance and longevity is.

The Corgiwerks reco units are an engineered solution with the opportunity to customise the fluid weight.
I’m sure they have a realistic warranty, and I’ve not heard of any issues or failures in the 4-5 years they’ve been in production.
The procedure is in the FSM, iirc it involves dropping the tailshaft and rear gearbox housing.
Its an opportunity to replace the reverse and neutral position switches.

Cut to the chase,
A new centre diff should be about $1,000.00
Got-It-Rex in Melbourne have them for $895.00. Just checked now. Includes GST.
I am not promoting Got-It-Rex, simply using them as a litmus test for new pricing.

Therefore 2,500 - 900 = 1,600 for install labour
Get out of here!

AMPL have installed a few diffs, so they know how many hours are required and more importantly, they know how to install the unit properly.
I would use someone like AMPL way before using someone who has never installed one before.

Hi
replaced the central diff coupling unit with a recond unit from Corgiwerks and seems ok...no more clunking with uturns.
I was getting a mild tremor through the seats and steering wheel when driving steady, almost gliding at about 50 km/h and more, and noticed that this still exists after
the diff repair. It is hardly noticable unless you are familiar with Subarus and wondering if any one has any opinion.
straight line driving is not an issue as it tracks true.....not wobbly, simply a tremor/vibration...
mechanic who did diff repair says the suspension looks ok and the tyre tread is good..although inside passenger tyre has minor rubber tear, but very small next to where a balancer placed a lead balance.
I have a picture of it on my phone.
If it is tyre I cannot just change one and do not want 4 new tyres to find its not rubber issue

You’d take it to a tyre shop, get the tyres balanced and rotated, they can check the wheel bearings and your alignment as well.
If your unsure of the result, get it checked at another business or two for a second opinion.

Try a stab in the dark.
Pothole damage causing a snake bit pinch damage to the tyre and bucking in the wheel rim.
