Hey everyone,

I'm not a happy camper after jumping to my car this morning to find it broken into AGAIN.

I have a MY07 Liberty GT Spec B parked on the street (nowhere else to park unfortunately) in the eastern suburbs in Sydney.

My car was last broken into in early October and last night. The first time they stole a dash mounted (hard wired) Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS, some coins and my spare wheel. The second time they stole again the dash mounted GPS (I had bought a new one), some coins, a digital camera (hidden away) and my car oil.

The strangest part is that both times my car was definitely locked (last night I even walked back and checked after parking it) and there was zero signs of forced entry.

I'm guessing there are only 3 ways they are getting access to my car.
1. They know a simple way to break into this model Liberty's (we should all be concerned if this is the case)
2. They have a key that fits my door (Subaru say that this is a 1 in 100,000 chance)
3. They have found the remote frequency for my car (Subaru claim this is impossible)

Does anyone have any suggestions to combat this problem?

I'm looking at car alarms, but I'm concerned about the Subaru alarm as this will not be effective against the third way.

The frameless windows on the Subarus make them very sexy, but are a fatal security flaw. You can simply pull the window back, reach through and unlock the door.

Sucks to have all that stuff stolen... it may be worth investing in that alarm if you have to park on the street...?

Sorry to hear about that. Yes it is through the windows and i think you should definitely invest in an alarm solution. Nothing will ever stop the most determined of criminals but at least it should deter most of them.

Liam that is bad news mate, sorry to hear it.

Most probably through the frameless window. Get an alarm, I know it may not stop those bastards... but it may be the slight deciding factor that makes the difference.

I see if people talk about frameless windows, we will get all the whingers on here saing that we are giving the thiefs ideas on how to break into cars. Let me say though that the little shits that break into cars, can't generally afford a computer to read forums anyways so I believe if we all know how to break in, then it arms us with the knowledge of how to prevent it.

I have an Autowatch / Brant alarm with the keypad, and it is awesome, as s%$#heads I have spoken to all say they don't touch the ones with keypads.

Look around your local cash converters in 28 days and I'm sure you will find it there, but then you have to prove that the unit is yours to get it back.

Christ all mighty, Does that mean even my 00 Model Subaru can get broken into just my the windows? :S.

If so shit, Looks like I gotta get me a shottie to arm to the door so as soon as it opens, Well you get the jist. Or I'll get a car alarm anyone know what kind would be of better use?

What car alarms do you guys use/recommend?

I have a top of the line Brant / Autowatch with keypad, carjacking etc.

I have had it for three years and never had a drama with it.

I have a Mongoose car alarm with in-car tracking system, which sends sms to my car if my batt is low, someone broke into my car or car is intruded. Does the job and very happy with it.

There's a few of us have had the same experience as you.

Our Lib is parked on the street in inner-city Sydney and got broken into a number of times.

Ended up getting an alarm which extends the on-board security system/immobiliser (which is very good), and is operated off your normal key. About $500 from memory.

No issues since.

Why do you think this worked?

• The alarm adds an extra flashing light?
• The alarm keypad is visible?
• There is some other indication on your car that an extra alarm is fitted?
• Someone has tried to break in, and activated the alarm?

i have the same alarm as what skoobyGT mentioned....its a pretty good alarm imo...

not had issues with it at all and is a really decent alarm i suggest you PM skoobyGT for the contact details....as I don't like to take other people's thunder

My car got broken into over a year ago at my work, which is at a home office. I had my radar detector mounted on windscreen, and bags on back seat. They pulled the rear passenger window back, but smashed it in the process. I didn't have an alarm at the time, but got one straight after and haven't been broken into since.

If you don't want to get broken in, don't display GPS units or even the suction things on the windscreen, that's an invite.
