ok so yes i know this has been talked about a bit, but im after a straight decision,

on one hand i love my liberty to bits and want the best for it, on the other hand i dont really have any desire for adjustability..

so should i get a set of coilovers or a set of custom hight Kmac Springs?

i want it to come down pretty low, so normal tiens or kings dont do the job (i have whitelines in it at the moment) kmac will set any height i want, i just need to tell them what drop i want from factory, i was thinking about 1.5inch in the front and 1.6 in the rear the other issue i have is whether i will be hitting bump stops or not at this height.. is the only real advantage to coilovers adjustability?

if i did have to move to coilovers what kind of prices am i looking at, i have gotten a quote for $360 shipped to my door for a full set of kmacs ( i know coilovers are about 4 times this price) i just dont know what to do, i dont want to buy these springs, fit them only to find out im sitting on the bump stops and my ride has gone straight out the window

i was in the same situation not long ago and decided to go with the coilovers..
they are not 4 times more i would say more like 7 times more at the moment with our dollar value..

if u not worried bout going track days and purely want it for looks aspect.. go the springs. i dont think u will have bump stops issues , unless of course u slam the thing on the ground..

You hit the nail on the head. If you want the best, look no further then coil overs. I believe the going rate for a set of Tein Flex's is like $2400 ish because of the dollar.

As gtspec said, if your not wanting to do to track days & your looking purely for looks, a set of springs will do the job nicely.

Personally, I wouldn't bother looking at Kmac or King Springs. If you want the best I'd be going for H & R or Eibach. Both of their kits lower it down approx 30mm (My Eibachs have lowered mine more like 35-40mm I think).

Don't expect them to be cheap (Approx $600) especially with the current dollar rates. But IMO, they give you good overall performance, nice ride & obviously give you the low look we all want... Especially Mano...

well i never take the car to track days and am not to interested in adjustability, i have whitelines in at the moment and i would love to tuck tyre all round so kmacs seem to be the only desired height i could go. if im looking close to the 1g mark then i might just bite it and buy some coilovers.

Yes, you should just eat the cost and get coilovers. But since you're not planning to track it or use it for any performance recordings, you don't have to get JDM brands like Teins. You could always get something domestic that won't cost you an arm and a leg due to the exchange rate.

But the main thing is the flexibility to adjust it to whatever height suites you best. Because you never know, that super low look you're after may not suite you after a while or you get tired of it and want to go back to a higher height. If you had springs you'd have to get yet another set of springs to accommodate that. But if you had coilovers, you could just adjust it without the need for new parts.

D2 is actually a very good brand to look at. I know people have picked them up for around $1200ish.

D2 is cheap chinese rubbish.....coilovers wait till they need a re-build not cheap...

ive seen these d2 ones going for a song, deliverred to..

like all things that are cheaper tho there are horror stories, some people hate them some love them. i would love to hear if someone on here had them and liked them.

Tis true, but they have a place in the market. I know some guys they run them in Foresters & even S13 race cars & they have been happy.

Jap is the way to go, or Europeon, but it all just comes down to how much you're prepared to spend.

As I said, personally, I think Eibachs or H & R springs will do the job for looks & give you a solid upgrade in terms of handling performance / comfort.

Best to do things right the first time, rather then cheaping out IMO.

As I have said many times, I recommend K-Sport Coilovers.....I have them in my car and no complaints whatsoever!!

I just put Tanabe Sustec Pro Coils in my MY07 and they are awesome, so much more travel than the Bilstein + Tein S Tech. The price would now be a lot more because of the dollar though
