Subaru recalls late model turbocharged cars

I can't find this online yet, but according to today's "Drive", Subari is recalling all recent turbocharged models due to a problem with the oil pipe feeding the turbo charger.

Subaru wrote:The turbocharger pip may have been misaligned when it was put together no the assembly line. If the pip is misaliogned, "vibration experienced during normal driving could result in a crack developing in the pipe over time, causing an oil leak. The oil leak could create a fire in the engine bay.

Unlike a previous problem, which only affected the Forester, the company is recalling more than 3000 late model Forester XTs, Liberty GTs, and Impreza WRXs. The only turbocharged model not affected is the STi-tuned version of the WRX hatch.

Just confirmed this with Sam, out at fountain gate. He said they still haven't been advised of the affected VIN numbers, but owners will be getting a letter.

@Torpedo - I think it could include MY07 mate, as if i recall there are a couple of guys on the forums here who have had the oil pipes crack.

plenty of issues and recalls on this stupid oil line late model turbo charged subies in the USA, I guess it was only a matter of time until SOA admitted we have the same issue. Good time for a new after market turbo I reckon.

SEP 11, 2008 | Recall ID# 54659 Hide Details

Recall Reason ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Recall Date SEP 11, 2008
Model Affected IMPREZA
Potential Units Affected 16715

Recall Summary
SUBARU IS RECALLING 16,715 MY 2007-2008 LEGACY SEDANS AND WAGONS, MY 2008 IMPREZA SEDANS AND WAGONS, AND MY 2009 FORESTER VEHICLES. SOME VEHICLES MAY HAVE THE CYLINDER HEAD-SIDE OIL SUPPLY PIPE AND TURBOCHARGER-SIDE PIPE IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED.

Consequence
VIBRATION WOULD OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AND, OVER TIME, COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN CRACKING THE PIPE WHICH WOULD ALLOW OIL TO LEAK. IF LEAKING OIL CONTACTS COMPONENTS OPERATING AT HIGH TEMPERATURES, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR CRACKING OR AN OIL LEAK AT THE OIL SUPPLY PIPE AT THE CYLINDER HEAD-SIDE. AN ADDITIONAL BRACKET WILL BE INSTALLED TO INCREASE RIGIDITY OF THE PIPE AND THE PIPE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A MODIFIED PART. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUBARU AT 1-800-782-2783.

Notes
SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. WVF-16

Doh, first service was last week, looks like it'll have to wait until either the next service, or when I get a letter.

Wait for the letter. Then, book a time slot. The job will take approx. 1 hour + waiting (before and after).......

I will buy the new part rather than let any of the Brisbane dealerships near my car.
