My 2008 GT Spec.B engine swap

Postby JC08Spec.B » Mon Jul 31, 2017 7:50 pm

New to the forum after owning my 2008 GT Spec.B Wagon for a couple months now.
Initially after getting the car, 2 hours into my first drive, the turbo sadly blew up on me and so it stayed in my mechanics shop for a week or so while getting a new VF46 fitted. We are pretty certain that the previous owner knew the car was deteriorating and that is why he got ride of it.
3000km down the track the car seemed perfectly fine until i heard the familiar sound of a turbine rattling around in it housing once again. However this time, i was 5 hours away from home in western NSW. After a long haul back to Sydney on the back of a truck it finally reached my mechanic, a few words were tossed around regarding who was at fault after we found chunks of metal on the oil sump bolt. The engine was trashed!
I begun looking into options and soon enough i found a 2008 tuned by STI motor with only 67000km on the clock and pinched it up. With a near new VF52 and AVO TMIC, i was pretty happy.
I am expecting to be back behind the wheel in a couple of days and will fit already purchased Tein s.tech lowering springs on the stock Bilsteins in due time.

The 2008 2.5T motor had a recall for a being known to blow a big end bearing from memory.

Do you know if the car the motor came out of had the engine swapped under the recall ?

Or do you have anything planned for new bearings before swapping it in?

The motor never came out.

I have sourced a whole new motor and am doing a direct replacement. So if all goes to plan, a series of mods will make their way onto the car.

Wow awful story. Beautiful car...
These cars really shine if the owner is across the logging and maintenance aspect.
Mines made it to 250k so far so good.
Take a peek at the tune FAQ for info.
