so the old GT lib bumped into an accord euro a few months back, it wasnt major just a little nudge from a stand still the guy went to go i shoulder checked and applied slight acceleration and he slammed his brakes on an i bumped the back of his car, when we pulled over his car looked to have 2 scratches on the bumper, mine had a big dint in the front bar (need to heat gun it to pull it out) and also 2 very very minor cresed on the tip of my bonnet, even the guy i ran into said he didnt know how my car copped so much damage.

so i get a call from the insurance mob asking what i was intending to do, as im 22 and driving a turbo car my excess isnt very understanding so i asked for them to supply an estimate first.

i get a call from the cops to ask what happenned, the guy i bumped into is claiming compo for leg and knee injury.

i get a call from the insurance mob, they say its only minor and first estimate is around $270 to fix, not a prob i say to easy il just pay it

i get a call from my CTP insurer, they advise im not getting a ticket or anything from the cops and there just sending out the forms to get my version of events.

now this is my issue here

i get a call from his insurance mob, they advise the damages to the car and the repairs have come to a total of $1260 + GST!!!!

WTF!!!!! i am so insanely angry at the moment, i got them to send me the list of repairs, they say that ontop of the repaint of the bumper, the rear beaver pannel was damaged, the floor of the boot was dammaged, some reflector was damaged and needed replacing (there was no shatterred glass at all!) then apparenlty all the rear lights needed "re-aligning" and EVERYTHING was repainted, as in all parts including the boot floor and the rear beaver panel bumper support and that shit.

SO ANGRY!

is there anything i can do to dispute this? whats my best port of call?

Honda's are very expensive cars to repair. Your lucky it wasnt somewhere above 2k.

a little bit offtopic. I've been back driving the accord euro now. And god is the thing silent. Vtec has nothing against the sound of my 2.5 :D

and you should have seen this guys car, it was 2 scratches on the rear bumper that were barely noticable.

The amount of damage isn't always obvious until you start removing panels. $270 would have probably been to remove, paint, and refit the bumper, they couldn't have anticipated what they would find underneath. They should have mentioned the possibility of hidden damage though.

My old Skyline (R33) was hit from behind, from outside it looked like the rear bar had been pushed in a little, the lights had been pulled inwards slightly and the boot lid had been pushed up. Pull the boot lining out though and the reo was crushed, and the beaver panel and a little bit of the boot floor had been bent. The only thing stopping it being a heck of a lot worse was that the spare tyre absorbed a fair bit of the impact. It was about a $1500 job to fix I think, I didn't pay for it because it was the other guy's fault, but the figure surprised me a bit. The guy that hit me was still on the throttle, which might have made matters worse.

Yours doesn't sound like that much of a hit, it's possible this guy is using this nudge as an excuse to get other stuff fixed up (if it was just a tap and he's claiming injuries then it's likely) or maybe the panel shop broke something while repairing it, but to be honest $1260 probably isn't far off the mark. If you really did only just bump him, I guess you could argue that his repairs are inconsistent with the damage done to your own car and argue it that way, not sure how you'd go though.

If you have insurance that covers the other vehicle, forward everything to your insurance company, this is their job. If not, it's a good idea to get it. That could have been a Lambo, and you'd be up for a lot more than $1260.

try and give your insurance company a quick call to find out your options..

If the other insurance company is telling you to pay, the only way to really fight it is with your insurance company.

Maybe I not reading this right, but how come you just didn't pay the excess? Generally when other peoples cars are involved, its the best thing to do. That way your car gets fixed up & obviously you don't have to worry about the other car.

I suspect that subnub is right about the guy trying to get other things fixed. Com'mon, everybody does it! :P

I'm 23 with a GT & I know the excess can be pretty high, but still at least you know what you up for. No supprises etc.

Just remember everyone is looking out for number 1 &/or trying to make money. Sometimes honest people get screwed over, it sucks hard, but sadly that's the way things are in today's society.

IMO, just pay what needs to be paid & get it over with. Sure, there may be a chance you can get out of it, but the amount of time & effort is going to far out way the total benefit.

From his above posts I doubt it.

Just pay the $$ to fix it and be done with it.

Think yourself lucky it doesn't fit the criteria for police to investigate either or you would be getting a $320 ticket and three points for your trouble.

Minor damage to his, and a fair bit to yours (even though it wasn't a hard hit) That obviously tells you something. That the damge on his car has absorbed it more, into the car and not just the body, whereas yours was more superficial.

Just pay it, you don't lose any NCB, and it will be all sweet. Fight it in court, and the insurance company will make you pay a lot more than $1200, considering a solicitor can be $10k a day, or $300 a phonecall.

You got off it easy.

(I had a small 5c dent, no paint off on my GT. Got it fixed for $80 from a dent removal place. Got quoted $900 off a panel shop !!!!)

i would like to point out that this is the total damage done to my car, and it appears to be about 100 times worse than his!

anyway i DO have insurance, would be stupid to be driving a car worth this without it, and yes i no i t could have been worse in which case i would obviously just go through my insurance company in the first place, the thing that just annoys me is how minor this all is, and how much of a big deal he is making about it, i guess next time il just be sure to take pictures of both cars for my own evidence.

The photos are not really going to do anything anyways, as photos can only tell so much.

I don't think he is making a big deal out of it, but you seem to be. He had an accident with you, when YOU were at fault. His car is damaged and obviously needs to be repaired. Yes the quote changed but hey, what quote doesn't.

HE is injured, and needs medical attention (irrespective of if he really does). Thats what your Greenslip covers, HIS medical attention / personal injury.

So I don't think he is overreacting, you would be doing the same thing with getting your car and health fixed if he was at fault, wouldn't you?

Suck it up princess, it s crash, it was an accident, this is what insurance is for.

i think everyone is missing what im bitching about, i know i was in the wrong and yes i know i have to pay it and i will, his cars been fixed already and my CTP is taking care of the injury claim, the only thing that pisses me off is that the first assessment i was ok with, then its as if i didnt kick up a stink so they slammed there boot in and upped the quote a gorilla, just annoying.

also its hard enough seeing my baby with a black eye like this , but nothing a new buumper wont fix.. and maybe new side skirts.. perhaps pods for the rear to

end Vent im over it.
