Hey all,

just wondering for the guys that like to keep their libs clean (i try my best ) what tyre shine product are you using?

reason i ask is i am using this meguiars tyre gel stuff which lasts longer than ur average tyre stuff but the thing that sh!ts me is after each application, if i take it for a spin i get these splatters and specks from the gel flicking up onto the bodywork (wheel arches, sometimes doors) ...pretty annoying as i have a white car!

then i have to wipe the specks off with a cloth, or if i dont get it in time, it usually leaves a nice little stain behind.. not too noticeable, and usually comes out in the next wash....

so any recommendations or tips guys?

Poorboys Bold and Bright looks great but does not last long, but if you mix with polycharger
Megs is ok but wipe it on thin ,let dry and then if you want super shiny go again ,thin
If you try and apply 1 thick coat this is what happens
Also make sure you apply to a dry tyre, if you apply to a damp tyre the silicone doesnt stick and ends up on your paint, wipe your tyre with a old towel first

Been using the same 500mm can of silicone oil for many years must be applied to bone dry tyre and wiped over with a clean dry cloth afterwards .This gives a flat shine that last for a month

Hey digital, you are putting too much on hence the reason why when the wheels spin it flicks everywhere.

I used to get the exact same thing on my white lib.

Ease up on that gel, I still use the same stuff you are using but just less nowadays

yeah i always apply it to the tyre when it is dry...

if i can ask what do you use to apply it with so that its a thin coat? i use an old paint brush....

cheers trieu, yeah i have been trying to apply a thinner coat... and having been wiping it down to get any excess gel off..... but i still get the occasional speck .. i will try less....

Paint brush applies way too thick
one of those yellow sponge applicators or better still go to clarke rubber , but some dense sponge about 2 inch wide and cut to lengths equal with your tyre wall length , at probably $3 a metre its a use and discard option, rub the product in well and guarantee no more spatter

This may sound hideous but why not a paint roller, with a dense sponge?

With the foam, you do need to have a good technique because it tends to be a little tricky on lower profile tyres..

None of these products, came off my tyre and onto the body of my vehicle and yes i did apply generously!
Although i did not drive my car straight after a clean.. (45min standby time)..

Yeah i used to use meguiar's tyre high gloss gel as well and i found that unless you were extremely particular when you applied it and made sure there was absolutely no overspray in the groves etc. It left HORRIBLE marks when you took it for a spin.

i use all meguiars products aswell...i dont apply it everytime i wash the car, i guess evey 4th time in between i just use a damp rag and wipe the tyre over wihile it is still wet. mind you i dont like it to shiny..as trieu says use a little and go over the tyres again with the applicator a second time but with no tyre shine...by the way a bottle lasted me about 4 years...shane
