How many km can i get out of my 2.5i gen iv?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

How many km can i get out of my 2.5i gen iv?

So before you guys comment "how long is a piece of string" and tell me that if a car has TLC it can last for years on end, yes I know. But in general, how many km can a gen 4 2.5i get before it starts to deteriorate? I bought the car with 220,000km and am hesitant if it is worth spending quite a bit of money on, only to run into problems in a year or two.
How many km did you get on your liberty before you sold it?

I went 90,000km before the head gasket blew and took out the heads and radiator.

Also the sub blew around that time.

After an engine swap to one with around 40,000km, no issues until the car had done 150,000km.
That was mostly done running E85 with a tune, injectors and a 340lph fuel pump.

I traded it for my gen V GT. Which I got at 200,000 highway km.

On the gen V, Boot gas struts are gone. Heads lifting under boost. Knocking sound from left front of the car that I haven't diagnosed but isn't good.

After working in a subaru dealership I'd expect to rebuild the top end of the engine every 6 years or 110,000km on a gen 4 2.5i.

Because of head gaskets letting go.

My advice is if that happens, get the heads machined and use arp headstuds with a quality headgasket.

Oil changes every 6000km and frequent coolant changes so that the headgasket lasts.

Other than that they seem very good.
Never had any electrical problems.

Pro tip, don't spend money on it. Just stay on top of maintenance.

Its a good question though How many Kms is too many??

Say if you were Hypothetically going to buy a iv gen liberty B spec wagon or a 2.5i wagon. (Iam going to buy one so its not really a hypothetical for me but it would be for you guys as you presumably already have a liberty anyway)

Lets say a stock model 2007-2009 with a full service history. Obviously we dont know how its been driven but then you have to take that risk sometimes with a used car. Everyone lies a little we know that, but the service history is there so thats our insurance of sorts.

My thinking is the major services occur at 125000 i hear. So you would want it to be either at 100,000 and you get to drive it for a while before the big service cost. Or you would want one on or around 126000-140000 or so. On other makes I would never touch anything on or near 200000, but on this car the majority of them are sporting 180000-220000 Kms so im starting to loose patience with that approach.

You guys in the forums dont seem to care about this. But from a laymans standpoint a clutch, for example, has only so long in it and near 200000 I cant but feel your pushing your luck. So with the higher Km cars at what point would you scroll past the beautiful looking well serviced liberty with the thought "F*#k that, the ks are to high".
:P
Thanks for the Help

If you can do work yourself and are prepared to change worn things on the car, no reason why it can't go past 400,000km.

Mine's just ticked over 190,000.
I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!
