Hi guys,

I am planning to buy a liberty for myself but I can't make decision as to which model to get.

I used to drive impreza RS (MY05) and sold it thinking i will be getting a GT. but with recent fuel issues and also with upcoming new liberty i can't make a decision as to should i go ahead or not.

At this stage i am considering

AUDI A4 1.8T
Subaru Lib GT
Sub Lib 2.5i Prem (Just to save some cash)

I am just wondering is it worth going for GT or should i just get myself 2.5i ?

If I did consider GT then AUDI is just too tempting especially its better build quality.

Fanboy, that is a new one for Arith.

Umm, the problem is that you will find most of us, if not all of us will try and persuade you into buying a GT or premium 2.5i. If you have your heart set on the Audi then go for it but maybe do a bit of research into "hidden" costs associated with them on an Audi based site first. Subies aren't exactly cheap to maintain and run, definitely value for money but I'd imagine with the dollar as it is etc that parts for an Audi would be rather high priced. Also majority of Subie parts for the GenIVs are easily sourced - quite a few vendors here get great deals for us - is it the same with Audi?

A few things to consider I guess (you might like to take a look at Ariths car for some inspiration, it's a bloody nice example of what can be achieved - even by a fanboy).

Just consider the servicing cost alone with an Audi.

Build quality? Thats questionable with my experience. My sister has a S3 and we werent overly impressed. Door was heavy and over time had problems closing properly. She sold it and bought an outback.

Yeah might not be the only factor Bob. But I know they are cheaper than what Audi charge from our previous Audi experience.

Plus if it's a long term buy, don't forget to factor in frequency for the service costs as well. My mechanic friend says he see's double the number Audi's, BMW's, etc in his shop for repairs than the Subarus, Hondas, etc.

You're on a Liberty Forum longhorn, so of course we are all going to sway towards the Subaru's - If of course one of your selections was an R35 GTR or maybe even a BMW 335i, then you may have gotten a different response

From my families experience, Subaru's are always a good bet. Especially the Liberty. The Liberty is a nice car & to be honest, I think for the money you pay its a top buy.

Audi's may have a little more style & a more premium name, but as Phil points out, their build quality isn't what it used to be. Many car companies have closed the gap in the last 10 years or so in terms of quality, performance & style. Take the Holden Calis vs the 5 series BMW's (Not M5!)... So many of my clients have become Calis drivers since the VE came out as they drive as good if not better plus they still have all the safety features & luxuries for half the price!

Forget servicing costs, they mean very little. My Subaru costs the same amount as it costs my old man to service his 911.

Now that I've crapped on long enough I think you need to ask youself what your looking for... If you want a nice car but don't care about performance, the 2.5 will do the job... If you want a bit of everything then go the GT... If you're a brand whore (Like myself ) then go the Audi, but trust me, the 1.8T Audi's drive like nuggets & are really not much of a joy to drive - Do you really want to pay more to have less

If the Audi has 'RS' in front of the number then there is no question, but as you're looking at the basic, I'd save the extra coin and get a Lib GT. The Lib has been around for a few years now so the Audi will most likely be a bit quieter and a bit more refined, but the Lib is still good value for money, and given they'll most likely stuff up the next generation (based on the Impreza, Forester) I'd get one now before the ugly stick gets waved enthusiastically.

if you are thinking of the audi 1.8t. and want to save some bucks, get an 03 golf gti..

they are great little cars.

but i would say subaru as a first choice, and the gt.. have a look at how many people on here are selling their base ones... cos although it was cheaper, it just wasnt quite what they wanted!

Totally agree.....Been dreamin about an Audi for years but if I'd get one, get the high end....Can't go past Lib's for value for money but also gives you the luxury you're after.... Then again I don't really know what/how/where you like to drive or what you need the car to do.

Go out give them both a good floggin, let each dealer know that your looking at the other car and ask them to prove to you why you should buy their car.....the answers may surprise you...

I do think you'll end up coming back to the GT tho.....

I think you will find that coming to a liberty forum, most members will suggest the gt.

Hey bud.

If you want performance and a drive with character the Lib GT is the go.

The Audi 1.8T has nowhere near the performance of a Lib GT.
