Airbag recalls in 2006 Liberty

Postby kaycy » Tue Aug 16, 2016 7:40 am

We just received a recall letter from Subaru Australia indicating that my car's passenger airbag was affected by the takata faulty airbag recall.

Anyway, if you own a 2006 liberty and has not received the letter you might want to call Subaru Australia.

Cheers. Most Gen4s are affected, even my 2008 MY09.

I posted the form back to them a few weeks ago.

Yet to hear back from them.

There are no new airbags available, so it'll be a while. I took my car in for a service a few weeks ago, and they mentioned my car was affected by the recall (I already knew that from the letter). But there's noting they can do until they get replacement ones.

Subaru Japan is expected to have stock around March/April next year. So I'd say it'll be a bit after that before Subaru Australia gets them.

It's a bit of a worry for any passenger in the car (that airbag is the only one that can shoot out chunks of metal when it deploys). But with millions of cars affected worldwide (incl most Japanese manufacturers), it's a huge mission to make so many replacement units.

Just got letter 2 from Suby Oz - they now have non-Takata replacement airbags in stock, so it will only need to be done once. Booked in for second week of Oct, as we are off OS soon. Same dealer damaged mate's 3.0RB dash, so will be taking pics before it goes in.

Ok cool. Yeah definitely take pictures because mine was damaged about 6 weeks ago when they did mine. I got a replacement dash out of it, since mine was badly cracked already :).

I'm pretty sure they don't do anything with the ECU. The air bag is part of the Dash, and the ECU is under a plate in the passenger footwell. So there's no physical reason to do anything with the ECU. And I don't think they'd have to reprogram the ECU for anything. They'll disconnect the battery, but that won't wipe your tune. I have a tune, and it didn't get affected.

Had mine done today - had printed out A4 PICS of the dash ready for any problems. Only sign its been worked on is what I would describe as light bruising on the edge over the pax glovebox. I showed the rep , and wrote on the invoice 'signs of bruising ....' and she initialled. They must have had some practice since they monstered my mates car.

Sure - give me an email addr. I used front page of tuesday's age as proof of recency.
B@stards did a service, did everything they said - how did they check the spare pressure, when the back is filled with a 7kg model aeroplane, large wings, radio case, a wooden box, tool box?
Going to try to stick something up the (un)service manager tomorrow...
files are too big for here. email via wetransfer is best.

Good to hear they didn't butcher your dash. Glovebox damage is weird though, that is hard plastic and comes out without any tools.
And regarding the spare tyre, they won't check it if they can't get to it. But they should've mentioned that in the service report.
If they had moved your things from the boot, people would complain that they touched their stuff  , and it sounds like some of your things are definitey delicate.

Tom,
Didnt damage glovebox, just the dash above there was visibly bruised, where they probably had to urge it back into place. I expect the marks to fade over time, its not real obvious unless you look for it. Re the spare, service manage said the tech didnt mark the spare as checked, but somebody else assumed he had, and ticked the box. All ok in my mind now.
