I'm a long way from an expert and i believe it is a well argued topic, but i recently bought an aftermarket filter and opted for the apexi dry filter.

Lots of people suggest that oiled filters risk oil fouling up the AFM (or is it MAF? Whatever!) and messing with tune.

Like i said it's highly contentious and in the end my decision was made based on my friend's advice who happens to be a pretty rad mechanic, and also, why risk it? The flow on the apexi is great and clean, why risk an oiled filter?

There will be a bunch that agree and a bunch that don't, forums are great at that, but i liked to be as informed as possible when making decisions regarding my car, so maybe the above will help a little.

Don't buy a K&N, as others mention, oil fouling the MAF is a common problem.

But the biggest problem (which strangely they don't mention) is that they let through more fine dust and grit than stock paper/dry filters. They only flog the fact that they flow better. Take that to extremes and simply removing the filter will flow better too....

There's a large filter comparison done some years ago in the US with multiple filters compared on a flow bench, with dirt/dust added progressively to measure performance, both in terms of flow drop and dust passed through.

Have a read, you can draw your own conclusions: http://www.billswebspace.com/AirFilterTest.htm

I just did a service on my 07 GT yesterday. It has a K'n'N panel filter. I cleaned and serviced that as per the instructions. Upon installation I'm getting the flashing cruise and non working I drive. FML
