Sedan to wagon

So I've been thinking about this for ages.

Friday I had my first accident. Only small damage to my 04 gt sedan. I'm thinking of buying an 04 or 05 wagon and swapping the engine over.

I have a few random questions before I even look at the project.

1. Should I look for a manual wreck as I'm not sure in man is diff from auto chassis, drive shafts etc

2. What electrics to I need to bring over ?? Computer and loom ?? Or will the other loom suffice ??

If I can look for a certain type eg 04 manual na - if it will make the swap easier I'll be looking go do this.

Apoloiea for grammer / spells its 1am

Cheers Mike

Those questions aren't random, rather, reasonably relevant to what you're asking.

Good move going to a wagon, Muzza.

As I understand it, the transmission tunnel and chassis cross-members differ from automatics to manuals (this being one of the reasons that auto to manual conversions on 4Gen Liberties are difficult). Rear diff ratios also differ between autos and manuals. So it would definitely make sense to look for a manual wagon as the recipient.

You'd need to bring across your engine loom, ECU, immobiliser, potentially your dash. Much of the loom for things like power windows, stereo, headlights, etc should be the same between cars. Of course, the more you have available to you, the better your options may be (where your GT differs to an NA car and you prefer the GT option, bring it across).

You'd want to stick with a pre-FL car (so MY06 or earlier), as there are significant differences between pre-FL and post-FL cars.

All that said, if the damage isn't significant, fix it up, sell it, buy a GT wagon? You'll save yourself a LOT of headache/effort/cost.
