Hey guys!

Ive got a 2005 3.0R which im really happy with!
since about 4 weeks ago, ive noticed that the car suddenly felt sluggish on accelerating when i drove it one day, and still feels like that now
fuel consumption has gone up i reckon by about 20% (11L to 13L)

car has been tuned by matty, so it really takes off when i floor it
however, when i floor it now, it just doesnt have that kick at. feels like im driving a heavy truck or something

any ideas guys?!!

cheers

Jon :D

Hi Jon, that's a fairly vague problem you're describing there.

It could be any number of things - vac leak, fuel pressure, timing pulled due to engine pinging, brake lights might be out, you forgot to take out the pile of bricks from the boot, etc

Ideally you need to check over the car for any vac leaks first, then check all the other options I listed. Get yourself an OBD dongle ($15 on eBay) or a tactrix cable and take a Learning View scan of the ECU - should give an idea of potential issues.

Alternatively if you come down to the club cruise on this Sunday, we're meeting in Officer (Melb) 9:15 - 10:00AM, there will be a few of us who'll be happy to scan the car for you.

hey alexei!

Thanks for the reply bro

brought it into the mechanic and was diagnosed as a "failing 02 sensor"
it did not produce any error codes yet and the CEL is not on

apprently it was 100% fuel pump flow rate at idle (when it should be a lot lower?)

they said they couldnt diagnose which o2 sensor it was (since there's 4 apparently)
they said i can either repalce all 4 (which doesnt sound logical to me) or wait till it produces an error code

my question is:
- is there a way to tell which sensor is failing if the code isnt produced yet?
i dont want to drive around with a sluggish car

- will it damage my car in any way if i keep driving along like this?

cheers buddy!!!

jon :)

Maybe spark plugs/coils are old/worn out.
Maybe bad fuel.
Maybe air flow meter is dirty and needs a clean.
Is it automatic? Maybe the transmissions is playing up.

Hi Jon, sorry for the late reply...

I'm not 100% sure with the H6, you might have more luck posting in the H6 section of the forum, or the Facebook page, in terms of getting someone more experienced with the engine

The only way you can diagnose which sensor is through logging and potentially even just taking a Learning View snapshot of the ECU. It will show up your fuel trims, I believe the LV on H6s has a section for each bank of the engine, and when one side is way out - that should be the culprit O2. (I'm going to deduce based on that there are only two o2 sensors that will affect your fuel) which means you only really need to replace two (the front ones), not four, even if you decide to stab in the dark without logging or LV.
Rear ones don't do anything important on most Subarus, and I believe it's the same case with yours.

If you're in Melbourne, and around the South East area - shoot me a pm, I can try and scan it for you. Alternatively, start a thread asking for someone to help you with a scan in Melb in your area :)

Cheers

hey alexei!

Thanks for your advice

yeah i havent yet gotten my car looked at up till now!

Still no CEL popping up. I wonder if that is normal since i've noticed issues for about 4 months now

car is due for a service in july, so might get it looked at during that time

any advice from here guys?
eg:
- which mechanic to see? i live in inner south/east
- not worth paying a mechanic to scan it for me?

any advice would be appreciated!

cheers!
