Not overly keen on the STI logo, looks a bit funny for the most of us who dont have tbSTI, personally i think just 'Liberty' simlar to the prova font, not to large would be a nice subtle touch, giving it a professional feel

It seems everyone is really worried about the cost of these things.. so doing 2 versions isn't an option unfortunately.
I will clarify now though, that there is a fair cost in manufacturing these. So if anyone is expecting it to be a $30 item they're in for a bit of a shock.
Without knowing the material cost officially yet, i estimate these will be around $60+ each in the end. This is an estimate at this stage, so don't quote me on it.
So if that's too rich for some people's blood I truly apologise, but it's an expensive process.
As a reference, the Prova cover is well over $100 delivered for the wrx/sti version.

Im still keen at $60+ price tag Adam. Anything to cover the crappy plastic thing that is there now has to be a good thing.
Cheers

I agree. I'm not a huge fan of the STi logo either. Not only does it infringe copyright, but it's also not a genuine STi product.

"Liberty" or "SI Drive" would be my main preference if we had to have writing. Something that is exactly the same typeface as the 'Liberty' badge or 'SI Drive' logo.

I'm pretty keen to get one regardless though. However, I'd rather just something shiny there – minimal, simple, classy, functional – without any type.

I'll be fully transparent with prices too. I don't intend to make any profit off forum members. If I eventually put these on ebay I will put a mark up on them.

The machine shop charges $120/hour.
Theyre estimating 3 hours for the first cover, then hopefully 4/hour after that, but they've said it may only be 3/hour. Plus material on top of that.

So labour based on 15 covers.
The first cover = $360.
The following 14 = $600 (based on 3/hour)
Total = $960
That's already $64/cover without material.

Hopefully they can do 4/hour which brings it down to $52/cover + material.

plus postage to various states. Even at $70 its not a bad option for a custom made dial thats still cheaper than Prova.

I agree though Adam, once you have done our orders, you should go into production and open a store on ebay and sell them else where.

There's not a huge market for liberty's with SI drive unfortunately. So no real money to be made. But if i could I would haha

If people aren't keen to use the sti logo but put something on there, I think 'liberty' in similar style writing to prova as gonewalkabout suggested would look really good too.

I completely expected something around that Adam, I don't think anyone thought these would be $20 or anything like that. I'm happy to pay $70 or so for a good quality product

True. The US market could open up some opportunities if they arose though.

I'm keen on one too - I would like either the STi logo or LIBERTY (in the same font as the badge). Something classy/OEM looking rather than a random font that's hard to read.

I also like the current design, will still tie in nicely with the McIntosh.

We'll try "liberty" & "si drive" and see what people think.

I'm starting to think plain might be the way to go now though.

Plus that way outback H6 owners (however few of them) can get 1 too.

I'm assuming that if we did go for a logo/letters of some type that it would take longer to machine, decreasing # made per hour and increasing pricing.
Or is it small either that it doesn't matter?
My vote (pending seeing what awesomeness you come up with Adam) is for latest render with no logo/lettering.

edit: I figured they'd be around $50-75 so around that pricing is good with me.

I was discussing the same point about machining time with Chris earlier today. If the lettering is proud of the top, it will add a lot to machining time. If Its sunk into the top it'll be a lot less. But I'll need the machinist to confirm before we proceed with a logo. I won't do anything without the ok of the group first.

I'll put my vote in for blank. I'd like STI or the Subaru stars but it doesn't suit everyone. I'd like it to look like a factory option or a standard feature.

Ok guys,
Chris was nice enough to knock up the liberty logo for me, and an SI-Drive logo in the same font.
Here's the 2 of them, plus 1 without a logo.

Things to consider.
1. A logo will increase the machining costs - how much i dont know yet.
2. Whatever logo we choose needs to be neutral to all.. if we start polarising people, the numbers decrease and the cost goes up.
