A Bad Week!

Well, last week was a week I would rather forget.

On Tuesday night, while my car was parked in Pyrmont somone broke into it. The only thing of any value was my laptop, that was in the boot. Needless to say, they took it.

I am still not sure how they got in. I know the car was locked because I remember walking back to the car and trying the back door before I left. The only thing that I have noticed is that the passenger door glass is now catching on the trim when I open the door.

Then on Sunday, I headed off to Office Works on Epping Road. While I was pulling out of the slip road back onto Epping Road, another car changed lanes and I swerved. I hit the kerb and made a mess of my front passenger wheel and tyre...

Pictures follow...I'm off to try and get the wheel fixed today. As you can imagine it doesn't drive right either.

Sounds like you've had a terrible week mate. Hope you get it all sorted out.

After reading previous threads on break-ins i may have gone a bit overboard and had a quik-trak system put in my car. But at least it gives me peace of mind and has already worked its magic on a previous occasion.

Rod, I feel for you mate. My car was broken into about 18 months ago.

By the sounds of it, they got in the same way as they got into mine. Rimless doors... Need I say more. I had a Cobra Alarm system installed (Helps when you know the owner) & I feel alot safer parking my car.

Did a good job of the rim too! Might want to be careful you didn't buckle the bloody thing. You'd be supprised how easy it is to do on Sydney roads.

I'm guessing the stuck their arm thru the glass and the chassis frame due to the lack of a frame in the libs.

I heard that this is the most common entry technique for theifs when it comes to frameless doors. Get an alarm (not one that is coded with your central locking as they even have code hoppers now!) system that has a shock sensor as well as microsonic sensors. Theres a guy which I got off SkoobyGT thats a contracter for a lot of dealers and Brant alarms that does goood systems and has been in the industry for a while.

I have seen children at work literally be half inside the car from prying the glass. It is scary to see how easy they make it look.

just on the point of alarms. i was thinking, as i do. Would it be wise for someone to design a system that "harms" the intruder in some way? like ummm 4 119 DB sirens that go off when the glove box/centre storage compartment is opened when it is "Armed". (Burst they're ear drums?)


maybe i should drop by Jay car and see what i can do haha.

Me posting, "prying the glass" is not new unless you have been living on another planet.

Let's not tell an open forum that people can use screwdrivers to jimmy the lock on a car either.

You mean like those commercials in Robocop where the thief gets fried via the thousands of volts surging through the seat? I'm sure it's been thought about but too much liability! The car owner would end up going to jail!
