central locking issues.

so the problem is i have another suby that isnt under warranty anymore. and the central locking had stuffed up.

What would be the better option:

- take it to Subaru, have them fix it and get ripped off.
- take to a electrical auto place. (any ideas where i could go around Sydney)

Which bit has died?
If you use the key in the driver door, do any other doors lock or unlock?
Do the buttons on the key operate the driver door?
Does the manual lock/unlock switch on the inside of the driver door work?

ok so the problem.
the buttons on the key doesnt work.
and when i use the key to open the door, only the drivers side door opens.

Have you checked the fusebox?
I think there is one fuse dedicated to the central locking.

ok so its not the fuse. Because the inside locking/unlocking button works. So that just leaves a problem with the key or receiver (btw both keys dont work, even after replacing the batteries)

any ideas. ? :oops:

Weird... I've had to friends have similar problems in a Mazda 3 & in a Falcon.

Obviously Subaru would be able to fix easily, but my faith in the dealership service departments have dropped off signifcantly of late + they would want to charge you an arm & a leg.

Depending on where you are in Sydney, I know Buckley St Auto Tech in Marrickville are very good if you think its a wiring / electrics problem. Otherwise I'd just take it to a mechanic that you love & trust.

Turn your key from off to on (i.e. two clicks) in teh barrel ten times, and then try it again. I had some strange instance with my car like that too..

Have you tried cleaning the receiver so it gets a good signal?
I had the occassional c/l glitch even when the car was just dirty, cleaned the windows and dust off the receiver then it was back to normal.

Worth a try if you haven't already-at least it's cost effective

I'd guess it's in the dashboard, somewhere in behind the radio.

(I know when I had a transmitter nearby interfering with the signal, holding the remote over the windscreen was the only place it worked.)

What I thought was the receiver, sits on top of the dash pad in the centre, looks like a little black round button,

It seemed to work the couple of times I had an issue.

Along with giving all the windows a good clean.
