With the ECUTek you're paying for proprietary software, basically the ECU is already able to be retuned/reflashed in its raw form. Same deal with OpenECU.

Basically it's like paying for Windows Vista Ultimate, versus using Linux, which is open-source. You can realistically do everything on both, but you're paying $600 for Vista, whereas Linux is free. The look and feel might be different, but both are just as powerful (the hardware is the same).

warranty with Ecutek .... dont know about the other.

I'm running the ECUtek software & I've found it to be pretty good (We'll see how good it really is once I get more mods etc).

Can't say I have any experience with the other types of software, but I have heard good things about the OpenECU.

The only real advice I can give you, is don't get the ECUtek installed & tuned by MRT.

I went to them before I became a member of the forum & not knowing any body who was really into tuning / modding Subaru's.

Personally I haven't had any problems with the work they have done, but they flat out fed me bullsh*t about various products they use, didn't have the parts available even though I'd been booked in for over a month etc. Aside from that they charge huge amounts of money for anything & everything do.

If I had my time again, I wouldn't be going there.

I don't think MRT products or service is the main issue, just their sales tactics (and in some ways, their high prices).

When I first started and didn't know better, I went to them as well. Instead of giving me all the options available and then persuade me on why their product is better, they just flat out lied and told me that their products is the only way to go. And if I use another product or combined their products with any other products, I will damage my engine and/or turbo.

After having done a few mods, I can safely say that is not the case. Installing non-MRT products will NOT destroy your engine.

S&J in Adelaide are MRT agents & i know Sean would never enter into such scare tatics..

Whoa! Take it easy. I didn't even mention any MRT authorised vendors. I'm simply re-telling my experience when I called MRT sales at their head office.

Vendors don't need to rely on such tactics because they can sell other products.

I wouldn't believe a word of what comes from MRT, whether direct or via a reseller.
