carburettor!

guys. my mate is tryin to work out how to get powergains out of a carburettor, thought id lend him a hand and stay true to asn forum and see if any of you guys know much about them and how to get some good powergains out of em. He's looked around but still not happy with his options.

btw, the engine is an old red 202 (straight 6, 3.3L) from a 76 HX kingswood

Google it, there's a lot of stuff on various holden forums about carbys on holden 6's. It's a bit of a science. you have to balance what the engine can suck in against the CFM of the carb. Too small and you choke and too large not enough pressure. There are several calculators on the web that you feed the different parameters into and it works everything out for you. :wink:

OMG you must be as old as me :D triple Webbers and a meter of garden hose to balance them out they were the days

Ahhh...triple Webbers, that was when petrol was about 18c a litre... :lol:

A mate of mine used to tune his triples with a stethoscope listening to airflow, then went all modern and used a vacuum gauge!

Generally with carbs get a high flowing type air filter and increase the jet size, get a fuel pressure regulator and clean the fuel filter, advance the timing (distributor). If the carb's done a lot of miles, get it rebuilt, a carb gets a bit cranky when it starts sucking air in from places other than the air inlet/venturi.

its all about jetting and getting the mixtures right.

twin 45 webers on the RS2000 were a challenge to tune
