MG Challenge videos

Here are the first two videos from the competition in South Australia over the long weekend. They are pretty heavily compressed, the originals are excellent quality 640x480 30fps, but MUCH bigger.

This was an inter-club competition, between the MG Car Club in Victoria, and the MG Car Club in South Australia. I've never competed at either of the venues we used (a hillclimb and a racetrack), so this was learning experience. Also a good test for my new camera mount.

Collingrove Hillclimb. Saturday June-7. My second run (and fastest out of four runs). Very tricky, it is steeper than it looks on the video. I could definitely improve my time here with a few more runs. It starts with a short burnout to warm the tyres and wipe off any dirt and grass they picked up, and then I advance to the start line.

Mallala Racetrack. Sunday Jun-8. My third run, and probably slowest, as it rained. There was no way I could improve my time from the earlier run on a dry track, so I had some fun! ;)
Unfortunately the 4GB SD card filled up just as I had my first big spin, there were a couple more you miss out on... ;)

For the record, I came "third in class" at the Hillclimb, and "second in class" at the racetrack :)

cool... I might have to wait until I get home to download these guys...

...just for future reference, the format (640x480 @30fps) is NSTC (what the U.S use). If you want to record it in the format that Australia uses switch to PAL (720x576 @ 25fps).. it should make the filesize slightly smaller too :)

Congrats on the results

Actually, NTSC is 29.97 fps ;)
I have no choice. 640x480@30fps is the only "hi-res" format my Canon A720is camera will record in, but it makes stunning videos at that resolution. (I have a Sony Hi-8 cam that does 720x576 @ 25fps, but the Canon vids look better!)
The only other choices on the A720is are 320x240@30fps, and 192x160@15fps.

heheee, fair enough... you know what they say that NTSC stands for.... "Never Twice the Same Colour".... :)

Oops, Alzheimers strikes again!
I had a Hi-8 handycam years ago. I now have a D-8 handycam, but the Canon still makes better looking videos!

And I thought that my gearbox was noisy in my 07. ;)

Looks like you had some fun there!
